The mentorship arc Holland has been building toward
For years, fans have watched Tom Holland grow from a wide-eyed Peter Parker being shepherded by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark into the undisputed center of the MCU's Spider-Man franchise. Now, with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 having already proven how electric a dual-Spider-Man dynamic can be in gaming, Holland wants to replicate that energy in live action. He's not just hoping for it either. He's working on it.
During a recent interview with Hobby Consolas, Holland opened up about his ambitions for the Spider-Man franchise beyond Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters July 31, 2026. The conversation went well past the usual promotional talking points.
"I think at this point in time, we're being really open-minded about what the future looks like," Holland said. "I know that I have aspirations to bring Miles Morales into the universe, however that works out. You know, we've got a lot of work to do to bring that to life."
He didn't stop there. Holland connected his ambition directly to his own origin story in the MCU, crediting Downey Jr. for the way Peter Parker was introduced to audiences back in Captain America: Civil War.
"I feel incredibly grateful for the way I was introduced into this world and that I was shepherded by RDJ," Holland continued. "I would love to kind of return that favour to the next generation of people that get the luxury of making these movies. So that is definitely something I'm really working towards."
That's not a vague platitude. That's a stated goal with a clear framework.

Two Spiders, one city
Why this matters more than a typical press tour quote
Here's the thing: Holland has been consistently threading this needle for months. Back in May, he was already teasing interest in "setting up the next chapter" for Miles Morales in an Empire Magazine conversation. The Hobby Consolas interview isn't a one-off. It's the third time in recent months he's returned to this specific topic unprompted, which tells you it's not just something he says to fill interview time.
The groundwork for Miles Morales in Holland's MCU was actually laid back in 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming included Donald Glover as Aaron Davis, the character known in Marvel comics as the Prowler and Miles Morales' uncle. Davis even references having a nephew somewhere in New York during that film. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige was notably cagey about Miles' future at the time. That was nine years ago.
Since then, Miles Morales has become one of the most beloved Spider-Man iterations across every medium. The Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse animated films turned him into a generational icon. Insomniac's games gave players an entire standalone adventure as Miles, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 built its central narrative around both Peter Parker and Miles operating simultaneously as Spider-Man in New York. The appetite for a live-action version is not in question.
The gaming connection Holland and Zendaya already have with Insomniac
What makes Holland's push particularly interesting from a gaming angle is that he and Zendaya have both publicly expressed admiration for Insomniac's Spider-Man series. They've visited the studio, and the games have clearly influenced how the franchise is perceived culturally. Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 put players directly in control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, letting them switch between the two heroes across a single interconnected story. That co-existence model is essentially what Holland is describing for the MCU.
The games demonstrated something important: audiences don't need to choose between their Spider-Men. Two can share the same city, the same story, and the same emotional weight without one diminishing the other. Holland seems to have internalized that lesson.

What Holland is actually describing when he says "working towards"
This is where the good news and the reality check collide. Holland is not a Marvel Studios executive. He can advocate, he can push, he can make his intentions known in every interview between now and Secret Wars, but the actual decision to cast a Miles Morales and integrate him into the MCU sits with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios.
That said, actor advocacy in the MCU has historically moved mountains. Downey Jr.'s influence on the franchise's direction was well-documented. Holland positioning himself as a champion for Miles from within the franchise is meaningful. Studios pay attention when their lead actors are this vocal and this consistent about a specific creative direction.
Holland is also expected to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, and at least two more Spider-Man films beyond Brand New Day. That's a long runway. If Miles Morales enters the MCU during that window, Holland's mentorship arc has a natural endpoint that mirrors Tony Stark's relationship with Peter Parker almost exactly.
The parallel is hard to ignore. Stark found Parker, brought him into the Avengers, and eventually sacrificed himself. Parker found his footing. Now Parker finds Miles, brings him into the fold, and eventually passes the mantle. It's a clean generational handoff that writes itself.
Brand New Day sets the stage, but the real question is what comes next
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives July 31 with a cast that includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo. The film's villain remains deliberately under wraps, and Holland has been careful not to reveal whether Miles Morales appears in any capacity.
What's clear is that Holland is treating Brand New Day as the beginning of a new chapter rather than a conclusion. His comments about mentorship, legacy, and the next generation of Spider-Man aren't abstract. They're a roadmap.
For players who've already experienced what a Peter-and-Miles dynamic looks like at its best through Insomniac's work, the prospect of seeing that relationship translate to the MCU is genuinely exciting. If you want to revisit that dual-Spider-Man story while waiting for the film, the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 guides cover everything from Miles' Venom abilities to the full main story walkthrough.
The MCU version of this story is still being written. Holland is clearly doing everything he can to make sure Miles Morales gets to be part of it. For fans of both the films and the games, that's the best possible news heading into what could be the biggest Spider-Man summer yet.
