Puzzle and Arcade Games Leading the Market

Hole People, published by Rollic, achieved $4.9 million in revenue and 2.5 million installs. The game combines a traditional sort puzzle format with additional strategic elements, such as blocking colors that increase the role of planning and strategy. Rollic has implemented a gradual difficulty curve, replayable failed rounds, and ongoing support. Monetization relies on battle passes, ad removal offers, and fail-level purchases, which account for approximately 30% of monthly revenue. In July 2025, these offers alone generated around $1 million.

Screw Sort Puzzle – Cube Jam 3D from BitEpoch reported $4.7 million in revenue from 3.1 million installs. The game’s 3D perspective differentiates it within the genre. Revenue increased 258% YoY while downloads plateaued. The developers are experimenting with both gameplay, including boosters similar to Royal Match, and monetization strategies such as scaling piggy banks and adjusting fail-offer prices. Live operations include daily and monthly leaderboards, milestone events, and various in-game challenges.

Tower War – Tactical Conquest, published by SayGames and first launched in 2021, remains relevant with $3.5 million in revenue and 9.5 million installs. The developers continue to update core gameplay elements to maintain competitiveness. Epic Plane Evolution, developed by Voodoo, also earned $3.5 million with 8.6 million installs, representing a 265% growth compared with the previous quarter, mainly from the U.S. market. Voodoo converted the title from a hypercasual ad-driven model into an IAP-heavy project, implementing a ticket system for plane launches and increasing IAP pack prices.

Knit Out, another Rollic release, generated $3.4 million from 1.5 million installs. Despite intense competition in the genre, Rollic successfully positioned the game within the top 10. The publisher relies on live operations and the newly launched Thread Pass, a battle pass system that contributes 5–7% of monthly IAP revenue. Fail-level offers remain the primary source of monetization.

Competitive Landscape and Market Outlook

The hybrid-casual segment is becoming increasingly competitive. From January to July 2025, more than 215 games launched with “hole” in their keywords, compared to 15 in the same period of 2024, indicating significant growth in puzzle-based titles. Similarly, over 280 games included keywords such as “wool,” “thread,” or “knit.” Publishers are actively adapting gameplay mechanics and monetization strategies to remain competitive.

Rollic and Voodoo continue to lead the segment by combining gameplay innovation with live operations and refined IAP strategies. As the hybrid-casual model expands, it is becoming an important category within mobile gaming, offering developers an alternative to ad-driven hypercasual formats. The evolution of these games also demonstrates the growing potential for web3-related mechanics and digital economies to be integrated into mobile titles in the future.
