Apeiron Review

Apeiron is a Web3-powered god game that blends roguelike action, strategy, and collectible gameplay. Players take on the role of a god, controlling an avatar planet while managing and battling with apostles, which serve as their warriors. The game features two main modes: Dungeon Mode (PvE), where players progress through a tile-based battlefield while collecting and upgrading apostles, and PvP Arena, where they can use fully enhanced apostles to compete against other players. A third mode, Planet Simulation, is currently in development and is expected to expand the game's core mechanics.

Gameplay

Apeiron is currently in Open Beta, featuring two main game modes: Dungeon (PvE) and PvP Arena. A third game mode, Planet Simulation, is still in development, but the game continues to evolve with regular seasonal updates, with Season 5 being the latest.

For new players, the game starts with an easy-to-follow tutorial that introduces the basic mechanics, such as controlling the avatar, using skill cards, understanding apostles, and learning how battles work. Once the tutorial is completed, players enter a hub area filled with Doods and other NPCs that they can interact with. This hub acts as the main menu, where players can manage their planets (avatars), apostles, and access game modes. Entering a game mode is as simple as walking toward the portal for either Dungeon Mode (PvE) or PvP Arena.

PvE Dungeon Mode

Apeiron’s Dungeon Mode follows a tile-based progression system, similar to other roguelike games. Players pick a tile, complete the encounter, and then choose another tile until they reach the end of the dungeon. The main goal is to finish the dungeon as fast as possible, as ranking is determined by completion time. The faster a player clears the dungeon, the higher they rank on the leaderboard.

At the start of each dungeon run, players choose Skill Cards for their avatar. These cards remain available throughout the dungeon and are crucial in battles. When selecting a tile, players are taken to a battlefield, where the objective is to survive and defeat all enemies.

The battle system in Apeiron is a semi-auto battler. Players cannot control their apostles' movement but can control their avatar’s movement, attacks, and skills. While apostles move automatically, their skills can still be manually activated.

After winning a battle, players receive random rewards, such as apostles, skill cards, or buff items. Instead of getting all rewards at once, players must choose which one to take, making strategic decisions on what will help them in future battles.

Apostles come in different classes:

• Warrior
• Hunter
• Rogue
• Mage
• Guardian
• Priest

Choosing the right apostles is crucial for survival. Players need to balance their team, deciding between tanks, damage dealers, and healers. Apostles with identical skills can be merged to increase their level, but replacing an apostle with a new one resets progress, making team management an important aspect of the game.

Tiles in Dungeon Mode serve different purposes, each affecting the player's progression. Battle Tiles trigger standard fights, where players must defeat enemies to advance. Elite Battles present a greater challenge with tougher opponents but offer better rewards in return. Shop Tiles provide an opportunity to buy buffs, healing items, random apostles, or revives, helping players strengthen their team for upcoming battles. And the Altar where you can get all your apostles and avatar fully healed.

One of the most exciting mechanics in PvE mode is that players can mint apostles as NFTs and bring them into PvP Arena. However, this isn’t a simple process—it requires in-game resources and tokens. But once minted, these apostles become part of the player's permanent roster and can be traded or used in future battles.

PvP Arena

The PvP Arena is where strategy, coordination, and skill matter most. Players bring apostles from the PvE Dungeon, but only those that have been fully enhanced and minted. PvP is all about skill builds and apostle setups, making preparation leads you to win the game.

Before entering a match, players need to prepare by setting up their Skill Tree, which helps create an effective strategy based on the current game meta. They must also carefully select a team of six apostles, though only four will participate in the battle at a time, while the other two serve as substitutes in case they need to adjust their strategy mid-match. Once their team is ready, players can either test their setup in practice mode to fine-tune their approach or jump straight into a ranked match to compete against others.

PvP follows an MMR ranking system, where players start at the lowest tier and climb the ranks based on their performance. It also features a seasonal leaderboard with rewards for top players.

Both PvE and PvP now have a battle pass system, offering additional rewards for completing challenges in each mode.

Also apeiron is now available on mobile, making it more accessible than ever. The best part? It’s completely free-to-play—no upfront cost, allowing anyone to jump in and experience its unique mechanics.

Apeiron feels like a game built with passion. Its mechanics are unique within the Web3 space, blending strategy with collectible apostle mechanics. The art and graphics have improved significantly over time, with each season bringing major visual enhancements. Long-time players, including those from Season 0, have seen how much the game has evolved.

The competitive scene is growing, with tournaments and special events keeping players engaged. Hopefully, more esports-style competitions will be introduced in the future.

However, there is concern about the decline in daily active users. It remains to be seen how the Apeiron team will address this and bring back the numbers from its peak days.

Despite this, Apeiron remains an ambitious and well-crafted game. With the highly anticipated God Simulation Mode still in development, there is plenty to look forward to.

Review

Apeiron continues to grow with each season, improving its gameplay, visuals, and mechanics. The Dungeon Mode offers a fun and strategic experience, especially with the mix of auto-battle and manual controls. The way players collect, enhance, and even mint apostles adds an extra layer of depth that makes progression feel rewarding. The PvP Arena, on the other hand, challenges players to think strategically, making team composition and skill setups crucial.

One of the best things about Apeiron is how much it has evolved since its early days. The graphics and animations have improved significantly, making the game more visually appealing and engaging. The competitive scene remains strong, especially in PvP leaderboards, where players constantly compete for rankings and seasonal rewards. However, there is no denying that the player base has declined, which raises concerns about long-term engagement. While the core mechanics remain solid, the game will need fresh content and stronger incentives to bring players back. If the upcoming Planet Simulation Mode delivers on expectations, it could be a game-changer for the Apeiron ecosystem.

Despite some concerns, Apeiron is still a standout Web3 game with a unique concept that blends roguelike gameplay with strategy and collectible elements. It is clear that the developers are passionate about improving the experience, and as the game continues to evolve, it has the potential to become one of the best in its genre.
