The World's Game update for EA SPORTS FC 26 is live, and it's the biggest mid-cycle content drop the series has seen in years. With no official FIFA World Cup license, EA built its own version of the tournament, and the result is a free update that touches nearly every mode in the game, from a standalone 48-team international tournament to sweeping FUT overhauls, Clubs upgrades, and two brand-new ICONS.
What is the World's Game update?
The World's Game update dropped June 4 and runs alongside the real-world FIFA World Cup through late July. EA doesn't hold the FIFA license (that relationship ended after FIFA 23), so the tournament isn't officially called the World Cup inside the game. The structure, however, mirrors the expanded 2026 format exactly: 12 groups of four, with the top two from each group and the eight best third-placed teams advancing to a round of 32, then five knockout rounds through to the final.
The update is free for all EA FC 26 players across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Which national teams are included?
The update adds 53 fully licensed and playable national teams, 41 of which are competing in the actual FIFA World Cup. Fully licensed sides include Brazil, France, England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, the United States, Morocco, Mexico, and Uzbekistan, among others. Two additional teams, Egypt and Japan, appear with authentic players but without full licensing. Five teams (Algeria, Curaçao, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan) are represented by generic squads.
EA confirmed the omissions are tied to licensing constraints and US sanctions law: "National team inclusion depends on our ability to secure licensing rights directly and comply with applicable laws and regulations, including U.S. sanctions, which may limit our ability to partner with certain federations."
Bosnia & Herzegovina and Congo DR launch with generic kits on June 4, with authentic kits arriving in a future update.
New stadiums added include Gillette Stadium, BMO Field, and Central Maw, a fictional venue designed to replicate the atmosphere of top-tier international football.
The tournament is also available in Career Mode with live starting points set just before and during the real-world tournament, so you can manage a national team through the same bracket structure.
What does the FUT Festival of Football bring?
Ultimate Team gets the most content by volume. The Festival of Football season runs from June 5 through July 24 and introduces a dedicated Event Hub, weekly international-themed campaigns, and more than 250 challenges under the Journey of Nations event. Each week you'll need to build squads representing players from across five continents to earn Club rewards.
The headline login reward is a 93-rated Festival of Football ICON Pelé, handed out free to anyone who logs in during the event window. Three "Choose Your Journey" Evolutions come alongside it. Over 100 new international players will be added to the FUT item pool throughout the season, plus two brand-new ICONS: Rivellino and Mario Kempes. Both debut with special Greats of the Game versions on June 19 before their base versions enter the standard pack pool on June 26.
A limited-time Penalty Shootout mode also launches June 28, available in both FUT and Kick-Off.
Festival of Football Event Hub
How does the new Tokens system work?
Tokens are the biggest structural change to FUT in this update. Starting June 4, Festival of Football Tokens become the primary reward currency across almost every FUT mode:
- Rivals
- Squad Battles
- Rush
- Live Events
- Select Objectives and SBCs
The idea is to unify rewards so your playtime in any mode contributes toward the same pool of prizes. There's a weekly cap of 1,000 Tokens, with a total of 5,000 Tokens available across the full Festival of Football period. Tokens have their own dedicated store stocked with players, packs, Evolutions, and club customization content.
Festival of Football Tokens are earned through gameplay only. They will not appear inside store pack offers.
A separate FUT Champions Tokens system also launches in Season 8, with its own FUT Champions Store. A rotating selection of special Red FUT Champions player items refreshes weekly. Higher win totals in Champions still reward additional Coins on top of Champions Tokens, so pushing for your best finish remains worthwhile.
What PlayStyles changes are in the update?
The Pitch Notes include targeted balance changes to two PlayStyles that had been generating community feedback.
Bruiser was producing shoulder challenge outcomes that felt too punishing. The update slightly reduces the boost Bruiser and Bruiser+ provide to shoulder challenges, while adding a matching slight boost to the receiver if they have Enforcer or Enforcer+. The physics of shoulder challenges have also been reworked so stumble direction and force now reflect the actual Strength and PlayStyle gap between players more accurately. A separate fix cancels shoulder challenges that would have connected with the back of an opponent.
Intercept gets a smaller tweak: players without the Intercept PlayStyle but with a 90+ Interceptions attribute rating can now access the same animations as PlayStyle holders.
The PlayStyles Lab is a new FUT feature tied to Festival of Football. It lets you choose your preferred PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ for specific items, including:
- Festival of Football: Star Performer
- Festival of Football: National Pride
- Festival of Football: National Pride Champions
- Glory Hunters
- FUT Birthday items (replacing Birthday Bakery Evolutions)
If you've been holding onto FUT Birthday items hoping for a Bakery Evolution, the PlayStyles Lab is the replacement. You can now pick the PlayStyles yourself and sell the player on the Transfer Market afterward if they don't make your squad.
What changes are coming to Clubs?
The Clubs mode gets meaningful upgrades to Archetype progression. If you're already deep into the EA FC 26 Archetypes system, here's what's new:
- Archetype level cap raised from 90 to 95
- Customizable PlayStyle slots increased from 8 to 9 (unlocked at level 95)
- Signature PlayStyles increased from 3 to 4
- The fourth Signature PlayStyle can be upgraded to PS+ at level 95
- Maximum attribute ranges expanded for each Archetype
The fourth Signature PlayStyle assigned to each Archetype is specific. A few examples:
- Finisher gets Acrobatic
- Magician gets Inventive
- Engine gets Rapid
- Marauder gets Trickster
- Target gets Press Proven
Attribute ceilings also increase. Shot Stopper can now reach 99 Vision, Sweeper Keeper hits 99 Short Passing, Marauder reaches 99 Dribbling, and Progressor tops out at 99 Ball Control.
Clubs Archetype level 95 upgrades
What is Evo Undo and how does it work?
One of the more player-friendly additions in this update is Evo Undo. Following the World's Game Update server release, you can fully reset any Evolution in your Club. If the original player was Tradable, resetting the Evo returns them to Tradable status, meaning you can put them back on the Transfer Market.
EA's stated goal is to remove the anxiety around committing to an Evolution. Combined with the PlayStyles Lab giving you control over which PlayStyles an Evo item ends up with, the system now has considerably more flexibility than it did at launch.
Evo Repeatables are a new item type arriving alongside Festival of Football content. These grant additional Evolution entries, giving active players more opportunities to experiment without burning through their primary Evo slots.
