The Bar Down Brilliance task in EA SPORTS FC 26 is one of those objectives that sounds simple until you actually try it. Score a goal off the woodwork using a German or French player in any FUT game mode. Clean concept, frustrating execution. The ball hitting the post and bouncing in is not something you can reliably force in a normal match, which is exactly why most players spin their wheels on this one for far longer than necessary.
The good news: there is a repeatable method that turns a luck-based task into something you can knock out in a handful of attempts. Here is exactly how to do it.
What is the Bar Down Brilliance task?
Bar Down Brilliance is part of the Germany + France objective within the Journey of Nations: Europe set. Completing the full Europe objective chain is the final step toward unlocking the 97-rated Maradona special item in FC 26, so this task is worth pushing through. The specific requirement is to score a goal where the ball hits the woodwork (post or crossbar) before crossing the line, using either a German or French player.
The task must be completed in a FUT game mode. Open play is not recommended for this because you have almost no control over whether a shot clips the post and goes in rather than out. A penalty-based setup removes most of that randomness.

Aim for the inside of the post
How to complete Bar Down Brilliance fast
Setting up the right match
The fastest path here is Friendlies mode. If you have a second controller, connect it and select Couch Play so you control both sides. No second controller? Invite a friend and ask them to let you work through the attempts without pressure. The goal is to give yourself unlimited penalty kicks in a low-stakes environment.
Once the match starts, get a penalty in your favor. With Couch Play, simply have the second controller's player commit a foul inside the penalty area. Your opponent cooperating makes this trivial to set up.

Use Friendlies for penalty attempts
How to aim the penalty correctly
This is where the technique matters. The objective is to hit the inside of the post so the ball deflects into the goal rather than out. Here is the exact approach:
- Select a German or French player with a strong Penalties stat, since higher-rated penalty takers give you a more manageable shooting circle.
- When lining up the shot, push your left stick fully to either side, 90 degrees left or 90 degrees right. You are aiming as far toward the post as possible.
- Watch the shooting circle under the ball. Let it shrink, then stop it just before it disappears completely. You want the circle small but not at its absolute minimum, which translates to a shot that is slightly off-center but not wildly wide.
- Shoot with normal power.
The combination of extreme left/right aim and a nearly-closed circle sends the ball into the inside of the post. When it catches the post at the right angle, it deflects into the net. Not every attempt will go in, but this method makes it repeatable rather than random.
What to do if the ball misses
Some attempts will see the ball fly wide or hit the post and bounce out. That is expected. Reset, get another penalty using the same method with your second controller, and try again. Most players complete this within 5 to 10 penalty attempts once the aiming technique clicks.
Which players qualify for Bar Down Brilliance?
You need either a German or French player in your squad. The nationality matters, not the league or club. Any FUT game mode counts, so if you have a high-rated German or French card already in your team, you are set. Prioritize whoever has the best Penalties stat among your qualifying players.
Finishing the Journey of Nations: Europe chain
Bar Down Brilliance is one of the harder tasks in the Germany + France objective, but it is far from the only one standing between you and the 97-rated Maradona. Once you clear this, work through the remaining Europe objectives systematically. If you are also grinding other objective chains in parallel, the FC 26 Journey of Nations: South America completion guide covers that branch in full.
