Enshrouded (2024) just exited Early Access with its biggest update by a wide margin. Version 1.0.0.0 dropped on October 15, 2026 for PC and PlayStation 5, and it touches nearly every system in the game. New biome, raised level cap, 37 new enemies, 9 new spell types, a full logic system for builders, voiced lore, and a reworked early game — this is not a polish pass. Here is everything that changed.

What are the biggest changes in Enshrouded 1.0?

Here's the short answer: the complete Embervale map is now open, the main story concludes, the player level cap hits 50, mage builds received a massive expansion, and builders got an entire logic system called Sparkworks. The table below pulls the key numbers together.

Cinder's Cradle overview

Cinder's Cradle and the full Embervale map

The headline addition is Cinder's Cradle, a new northern biome beyond the gates past Veilwater Basin. Its lower layer is a lava-scarred wasteland of ancient ruins and Shroud corruption. Above it, floating islands built by the Ancients hold new wildlife, architecture, and the guardians protecting the final chapter of the story. In terms of raw size, it sits between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin.

Cinder's Cradle is not the only new territory. The borders of Springlands, Blackmire, and Kindlewastes have all expanded outward. These edge areas are less dense than the main progression route but contain new quests, points of interest, and 6 additional Shroud Roots on top of the 12 inside Cinder's Cradle itself.

Two new Hollow Halls open up as well: one in the Albaneve Summits and one in Veilwater Basin. Structures across older biomes that Early Access players have been trying to enter for years are now part of the main quest path. Most former no-build zones across the world are also now open for player bases.

How does 1.0 change progression and the level cap?

The player cap rises to 50, and fully upgraded equipment can reach level 55. That gives returning Early Access players a meaningful progression tier to work toward rather than walking into the new biome already maxed out.

Flame progression extends further too. Reaching the new upper Flame tiers increases how far the Shroud can be pushed back, and the maximum number of Flame Altars climbs to 16 at Flame Level 11. Armor set unlocks are also less confusing now: every Flame upgrade automatically unlocks the craftable armor sets for the next tier, so you no longer need to stumble onto a specific resource to trigger the unlock.

A new survivor specializing in Ancient knowledge and recipes joins the base, and Cinder's Cradle brings its own crafting tier covering equipment, tools, food, consumables, arrows, and spells.

If you are working through the full system for the first time, the Enshrouded progression guide covers Flame Altars, survivor unlocks, and the full advancement path in detail.

What are the 9 new spells added in 1.0?

Mage builds received the most substantial combat expansion in this update. Nine new spell types cover crowd control, area damage, utility, and summons.

New spellRole
Mana DrainDrains enemy Mana and restores the caster's
EntangleCrowd control, restrains enemies
Pillar of FlamesDirect fire damage
BlizzardArea ice damage
Ball LightningArea lightning damage
Summon Fire TotemDeploys a fire totem ally
Summon Ice TotemDeploys an ice totem ally
Summon Shock TotemDeploys a lightning totem ally
Summon Hollow SkeletonSummons a skeleton companion

Summoning is now a real build direction. Two new skills, Advanced Necromancy and Totem Mastery, let you increase the number of active skeletons and totems respectively. The game tracks active summons and replaces the oldest when the cap is exceeded.

Every existing spell also gains an Eternal version, and Eternal spells can be upgraded like gear. There are now 22 Tier 7 Eternal spell versions available. The old annoyance of managing limited spell charges in the late game is effectively gone for players using Eternal versions.

Spell crafting costs are lower across the board too. Ectoplasm requirements have been cut for multiple recipes, mined gems now feed into some spell charge crafting, and rare resources have been removed from several lower-tier recipes.

For a breakdown of which skills support these new spell builds and which passive picks matter most, the Enshrouded best skills guide covers the top picks across every build type.

Combat changes: wands, blocking, and new skills

Wands got a significant rework. They now have a heavy attack that can pierce enemies and interrupt weaker opponents. Two new skill tree options extend this further: Aerial Wand Attack adds area-of-effect wand hits while airborne, and Wand Evasion Attack adds a wider, piercing evasive option. Free aim is now available for wand users, and target switching after bow and wand attacks in hard-lock is noticeably faster.

Blocking now responds to camera direction immediately rather than waiting for the character model to rotate. Stamina also recovers while blocking, which changes how defensive play feels in extended fights.

Other new skills added in 1.0:

  • Blast and Cast — after a wand critical hit, the next staff attack within 10 seconds deals 50% more base damage
  • Puncture — increases ranged piercing damage
  • Barrage — bow attacks have a chance to restore weapon durability
  • Survival Instinct — killing Shroud-infested enemies with a bow or dagger restores Shroud time

Dagger skills have been moved from the Warrior section of the skill tree to the Assassin section. Several existing skills including Veteran, One-Handed Specialization, Inner Fires, and Snap received cost and effectiveness adjustments.

On the balance side, Gem of Toxic Reaction now scales from +21% DPS at level 10 up to 65% at level 50. Gem of Battle Mania and Gem of Obsession were toned down. Heavy melee attacks can now hit multiple nearby enemies, and the two-handed axe second hit and whirlwind attack had their ranges corrected after a longstanding miss issue.

How was the Albaneve Summits boss changed?

This is one of the larger individual encounter reworks in 1.0. The boss received a health reduction, a safer arena with a wider walkable area and grapple hook anchors for recovering after falls, and a new exhausted phase where it lands on the main platform and gives melee characters a reliable damage window.

Stun arrows and shock damage now work significantly better against it. The back weak point functions for all weapons instead of just arrows. Projectile flight curves were adjusted so they can reach distant players, and a fix prevents the encounter from resetting while players are still present.

What is Sparkworks and how does it change base building?

Sparkworks is the new logic system for builders. It connects inputs and outputs through craftable tools and interactive props, then lets you visualize and configure those connections in a dedicated 2D graph editor. A lever opens a door. A pressure plate activates a trap. Stack the logic and you can build puzzles, escape rooms, arenas, and enemy encounters.

The system feeds directly into Adventure Sharing, giving creators the tools to build complete playable experiences rather than just impressive architecture.

The Airborne Architect skill, placed near the center of the skill tree, enables a free-flying construction mode. High, awkward, or previously inaccessible build locations become much more practical with it. Most former no-build zones across Embervale now allow player construction as well.

What quality-of-life changes matter most?

Some of the most immediately noticeable improvements are smaller than the new biome but will affect nearly every session.

FeatureWhat changed
Loot pickupHold interact to collect scattered loot in a wide radius, or enable auto-collect
Storage chestsUpgrade or convert to Magic Chests without emptying them
Chest and marker namingStorage chests and custom map markers can be freely named
Character proportionsChoose between classic and more realistic proportions at the Barber
FishingAll fish available in every body of water; bait tier determines what you catch
HUDEvery HUD element has individual visibility settings
Server permissionsHosts set permission roles at any time; roles persist between sessions
Bed fast travelFast travel is now possible while sleeping in a bed

Movement received new stop, start, and 180-degree turn animations. Inverse kinematics now place hands and feet correctly on uneven terrain. Steep slope traversal is more consistent, and stair movement on 1-voxel-high steps is much smoother.

Lore notes, books, and letters are now fully narrated in English, German, and Mandarin Chinese. Multiple entries can be queued into a playlist and playback pauses automatically during combat. Key crafting survivors and quest givers are voiced in the same three languages.

Graphics and performance: what actually improved?

The new brick renderer gives voxel terrain and player-built structures significantly more visible detail at long distances. Large bases no longer collapse into rough block shapes when viewed from afar.

Each biome now has distinct lighting, air moisture, and sky atmosphere settings. Dynamic global illumination uses more of the world for more realistic lighting, Shroud colors are more vibrant, and dense forests are lit more naturally under their canopies. Height fog adds depth across the landscape.

On the technical side:

  • Reduced video memory requirements without lowering visual quality
  • Reduced CPU performance costs across multiple systems
  • Shader compilation time after updates or GPU driver changes is significantly shorter
  • Point-light shadow performance cost in large bases is drastically lower
  • HDR support added with a dedicated calibration screen
  • Enshrouded moved to a new collision system
  • Improved performance on Steam Deck and low-end GPUs

What should returning players do first?

If you are loading an existing Early Access save, the skill tree resets on first load. That is the single most important thing to handle before anything else.

  1. Redistribute your refunded skill points before leaving the base
  2. Check your keybindings — custom bindings were reset for this update
  3. Talk to your crafting survivors — new services, upgrade options, and recipes are available
  4. Upgrade your storage chests in place without emptying them
  5. Raise the Flame — Cinder's Cradle and the new progression tiers are gated behind further Flame development
  6. Revisit older biomes — new areas, Shroud Roots, previously locked structures, and Hollow Halls exist outside Cinder's Cradle

Keen recommends a fresh start for players who want to experience the reworked early game as intended, but existing large bases are fully supported.

New players starting fresh will find more chests in Springlands and Revelwood, cleaner roads, reworked early enemy camps, and a first level-up that now triggers properly when placing the first Flame Altar. The Enshrouded beginner's guide covers the core systems you need to get started efficiently.
