The Desert map in Far Far West hides one of the game's most rewarding early side quests, and most players walk straight past the NPC who kicks it off. The Great Marauder is a two-part secret questline tied to Dr. Spark-Twist, and finishing it hands you a brand-new map plus an exclusive character skin. The quest is combat-heavy from start to finish, so knowing what to expect before you ride in saves a lot of frustration.
How do you start The Great Marauder quest?
The quest only becomes available once you've unlocked the Desert map. Once you're in, pull up your map and look for the golden icon marking Dr. Spark-Twist's location. He's positioned in the northern part of the map inside a small cave, near a workshop or radio setup surrounded by crates.
Approach him and interact to trigger the questline. Two objectives will immediately appear in your journal:
- Fighting Spy – Clear two Marauder camps and collect intel packages
- Mass Surveillance – Activate the surveillance antenna to intercept Marauder communications

Part 1: Fighting Spy walkthrough
Once you accept the quest, click the Play button next to Fighting Spy. Two quest markers will appear on your map as yellowish-orange icons, each pointing to a fortified Marauder camp.
How to clear the Marauder camps
Both camps follow the same layout: wooden fences, tents, storage boxes, and a mix of Marauder and Grunt enemies on patrol. Rather than charging the front entrance, circle around to the back or side and use natural cover like rocks, barrels, and wooden walls.
Headshots are significantly more efficient here. A clean headshot drops a Marauder in one shot, while body shots require four to five hits. If you have a Revolver available, use it with ADS to stabilize your aim and pick off enemies from a distance. Prioritize Marauders carrying shields or upgraded weapons first, then clean up the Grunts.
Once the camp is clear, look for a glowing box or crate in the center of the camp. Interact with it to collect the intel package. There's no fixed enemy who carries it, so you need to eliminate all enemies before the crate spawns or becomes interactable.
Repeat the exact same process at the second camp, located roughly 340 meters from the first. Collect Marauder Intel 2 to complete the first objective chunk.
Summon and defeat the boss
After collecting both intel packages, a red skull icon will appear on your map marking the boss spawn area. Before riding there, make sure you've completed the green star objective marker, as the boss won't spawn without it.
At the boss zone, interact with the button to summon the encounter. Two different bosses can appear here depending on your run. Bosses rotate between extractions. The Cryptic Saloon and Cryptic Vulture are both possible encounters.
After the boss drops, collect the Gold and Item Fragment pickup, then head to the Train marker (cyan icon) and hold F to call the train and extract. This completes the first leg of the quest and sends you back to Dr. Spark-Twist.
Part 2: Mass Surveillance walkthrough
Return to Dr. Spark-Twist after extracting. He'll hand you the second objective: locate a surveillance antenna inside another Marauder camp and activate it.
What code do you enter at the antenna?
Head to the new camp marker using the same flanking approach from Part 1. Inside, look for a tall pole or antenna rig, usually positioned in the center or on an elevated platform. The control terminal at its base will glow when you're close.
The code to enter at the antenna terminal is 3778. Some players may receive a randomized code from Dr. Spark-Twist mid-mission, so pay attention to what he tells you on your specific run. If he feeds you a different number, use that instead.
Once you enter the code, a 125-second countdown begins. Marauders will push into the area throughout the timer. You can fight them off from cover or simply hold position and outlast them. Either works, but staying mobile is safer if they start flanking.
After the timer hits zero, defeat the boss one final time (same rotation applies), then extract via the Train marker.
What rewards do you get for completing The Great Marauder?
Once you've extracted and returned to Dr. Spark-Twist for the final dialogue, the quest completes and you receive two rewards:
- Area 41 Map (unlocks a new playable zone)
- Dr. Spark-Twist Skin (equippable from The Rootin' Tootin' Shack in the Saloon)
The Area 41 map is the bigger prize here. It contains its own secret challenge, the Area 41 symbol code that unlocks the Anti-Gravity Falls Joker, so finishing The Great Marauder is a gateway to further content.
