Anichess New On-Chain Points System on Base

Anichess, the web3 chess game developed by Animoca Brands, has launched a new on-chain points system called M8. Built on the Base network, M8 rewards active players with points that unlock various in-game features. The system encourages daily engagement and ties rewards directly to gameplay participation.

About Anichess and M8

The M8 points system gives players rewards for participating in Anichess matches daily. Play at least one Quick or Ranked Match in a day and you earn 10 M8 Points. Winning isn't required — just showing up and playing counts. These points are recorded on-chain and will unlock new content as the game expands.

M8 Points will eventually let players access a range of in-game features. You'll be able to unlock new magical spells, buy cosmetic upgrades like chess pieces, boards, and backgrounds, and open lootboxes. Some lootboxes will contain elemental drops such as Fire, Water, and Earth. Others may include the upcoming $C token, which ties into Checkmate Foundation's Genius Score system and will be distributed through an airdrop to eligible players.

M8 Points will also serve as the entry fee for Gambit mode, a competitive token duel format. Players will spend a set amount of M8 Points to enter, though the exact cost hasn't been announced yet.

Claim M8 Points and Daily Rewards

Earning M8 Points requires completing at least one Quick or Ranked Match during a daily cycle. Each cycle runs from 00:00 to 23:59 UTC, and the claim window opens at 07:00 UTC. Claims are available Monday through Friday. Weekend matches — Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — can be claimed together on Monday.

You have to manually claim your M8 Points using the claim button at the top of the game interface. If you don't claim before the next cycle starts, your points expire. Set a reminder if you need to.

After you claim, the Anichess team processes the data and publishes your earned points on-chain. This takes a few hours, and updates are posted through the game's official channels.

Free-to-play and Access to Season 3

If you played during Anichess Season 3 — the public alpha launch in partnership with Yield Guild Games — your old on-chain points were automatically converted to M8 Points. No action was needed. Your progress carried over.

Anichess is free to play and runs directly through web browsers. You can sign in with Google, Discord, X, Facebook, Chess.com, MetaMask, WalletConnect, or Coinbase Wallet. Using a social login automatically creates a wallet through Web3Auth, so you don't need to set one up separately. This makes it easier for new players to jump in without dealing with wallet setup.

Ongoing Development and Player Incentives

M8 Points mark a clear push to deepen player engagement and integrate blockchain-based features in a way that actually enhances the game. By rewarding consistent play and tying those rewards to future utility, the system benefits both current players and newcomers.

As Anichess continues to develop, features like the Genius Score and $C token airdrop will likely expand the game's ecosystem further. The team is working to blend traditional chess gameplay with web3 mechanics in a way that's accessible and functional for a wide audience. You can play Anichess now on the official website — no downloads or installations required.
