WARDOGS Ping Limits Instead of a Region Lock: Are They Fair?

Are WARDOGS ping limits fair? BULKHEAD won't region-lock yet but will limit ping. Why I think it's fair, why I'd take a region lock, and why players leave Asian servers.

What Did BULKHEAD Announce About Ping Limits?

Yes, WARDOGS' ping limits are fair. BULKHEAD isn't region-locking the game "just yet", but it is going to enforce ping limits on regions , and it's hard to argue with that. Playing on 160 ping or more sounds genuinely horrible. Personally, I'd go further: a full region lock would be welcome. Here's what was announced, why it came up, and how it looks from the Asian servers I play on.

What Did BULKHEAD Announce About Ping Limits?

Ping limits per region, but no region lock for now. On October 13, CEO Joe Brammer replied to a player asking for region locking:

"Whilst we aren't going to apply region locking just yet, we are going to be enforcing ping limits on regions. This should aleviate the problem, but won't fully fix. We're going to monitor and look for a long term solution, but we do acknowledge the issue."

Brammer didn't specify the actual ping limit or a start date. Season 2 launched on October 15, and BULKHEAD noted in the description of its clip contest reel that the trailer and full patch notes were due on October 14 , so the specifics may have landed there.

Why Are Players Asking for a Region Lock?

The core complaint is high-ping players in lobbies. The post Brammer was responding to came from a player on US West Coast servers, who reported "an insane amount of Asian players with over 160 ping and some sketchy plays" and "a 300 ping player in almost every game" , to the point where they had been switching to central servers to avoid them.

The frustration wasn't just about ping numbers. The player described seeing blood when hitting opponents with the PKM but getting no hit registration. With 160 to 300 ms of delay, a high-ping player's view of a fight trails the server's state , which is exactly why shots that look like hits on one screen don't count on another.

This isn't a new issue, either. Per WARDOGS Hub's guide to the network icons, the r/WarDogs subreddit opened a dedicated region-lock and ping-cap megathread on September 24 due to the volume of posts on the subject. The in-game server browser also displays your ping before you join, as noted in the same guide.

Have I Played on US or EU Servers?

No, and there's no reason to. There are plenty of Asian servers, so I've never needed to look further afield.

That said, friends have mentioned that US and EU servers aren't quite as bad for cheaters and cheat-website spam. That may explain why some Asian players are crossing regions , they're fleeing Southeast Asia servers, which are notoriously bad for cheating. I covered this in my piece on whether to buy WARDOGS now or wait for Season 2.

Would a Region Lock Be a Good Thing?

For me, yes , a region lock would be a positive change. It would frustrate a portion of the Asian playerbase, though, since it would keep them on the same servers some of them are actively trying to escape. That's the real tension here: a region lock solves one problem while potentially worsening another for players already dealing with cheater-heavy lobbies.

What Else Is BULKHEAD Dealing With on the Servers?

DDoS attacks have been a major drain on server-side development. On October 9, Brammer stated that most of the team's community-server work had gone into fighting DDoS attacks rather than adding features, and that a dedicated team has now been assigned to the problem.
