Embark Studios has pulled back the curtain on Frozen Trail, the biggest update ARC Raiders has seen since launch, and October 8 is the date you need to circle. A full presentation dropped this week giving players their first real look at everything coming, and the scope of it is genuinely hard to ignore.
What Pendola Pass actually looks like
The centrepiece of Frozen Trail is Pendola Pass, a frozen mountain map built around a small village and an Exodus transport hub. The defining feature is the fallen Emperor, a massive ARC whose enormous husk sits right in the middle of the map. It's not just set dressing either; the Emperor's presence shapes how the entire zone plays out.
Three new ARC enemy types are coming with it. The Bully is a four-legged machine that relentlessly chases Raiders while firing at them, which sounds like a nightmare in enclosed spaces. The Skulker is the opposite approach: a smaller ARC that ambushes you and immediately retreats, rewarding players who stay aware of their flanks. Then there's the Hydra, a turret-type ARC with three separate gun sets that forces you to attack from multiple angles to bring it down.
The Frigate rounds out the new encounter types. It's a massive ship you board and loot, and unlike other ARC encounters it can't be destroyed. Embark is framing it as a distinct high-level activity that sits outside the usual extraction loop.
New weapons, gear, and a fifth quality tier
Frozen Trail adds two new weapons to the roster. The Stiletto is a light-ammo rifle, and the Bantam is a heavy-ammo revolver. Both sit alongside a significant upgrade to the existing weapon pool: a fifth quality tier is arriving via the Research Workstation, affecting 15 weapons with upgrades that can meaningfully change how they function, not just bump a number up.
On the equipment side, a Grappling Hook and tethers are coming, giving loadout builders more mobility options to work with. If you want to get ahead on the survival mechanics before Frozen Trail lands, the Cold Snap event guide covers the winter condition systems in detail.
Raider Dens and the Reward Pass
Raider Den Outposts are a new out-of-raid feature that lets players reclaim parts of the surface and customize them with furniture. It's a quieter addition compared to the combat content, but it gives the game a base-building layer that's been absent until now.
The Reward Pass is Embark's take on a battle pass structure, running both Free and Premium tracks. Rewards include new outfits, Raider Tokens, and other in-game items. No pricing details for the Premium track have been confirmed yet.
Here's the thing: Frozen Trail isn't just adding content volume. The fifth weapon tier, the Frigate encounter, and the Reward Pass are all structural additions that change how the game works long-term, not just what you're shooting at. For context on how Embark has handled major content drops before, the Flashpoint update rundown breaks down the previous wave of weapons and crafting changes.
Frozen Trail goes live on October 8. For everything else coming to the game, the full ARC Raiders guide collection has you covered ahead of launch day.
