Assassin's Creed® IV Black Flag™ on Steam

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Gold Edition is sitting at $40 on Steam right now. That is its normal price. That has always been its price. And while every other game in the franchise is currently discounted for the Steam Summer Sale, Black Flag is the one title Ubisoft apparently decided did not need a markdown.

The timing makes this especially noticeable. Assassin's Creed Shadows just received its final content update, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9, making this the exact window where players might want to revisit the pirate-era entry before the new version drops. Yet here it is, full price, in the middle of a sale.

Every single entry, discounted. Except the one people are most likely searching for right now.

The franchise bundle and what it actually saves you

For players who want to go deep on the backlog, the Assassin's Creed Franchise Bundle on Steam drops 67% during the sale, bringing it from $517.36 down to $169.27. That bundle covers the main 3D action-adventure entries and skips the Chronicles side-scrollers, so you're getting the core lineage in one purchase.

The math works out to roughly $20 cheaper than buying all 16 included games individually at their current sale prices. Not a massive saving on top of already-discounted prices, but it is cleaner than managing a pile of separate purchases.

important
The Franchise Bundle does not include the Chronicles trilogy (China, India, Russia), so if you want the complete collection, you'll need to add those separately at $3 each.

Why Shadows is the smarter entry point right now

If you're jumping into the franchise specifically because Black Flag Resynced is coming, the instinct to play the original Black Flag first makes sense on paper. Here's the thing, though: Resynced appears to be more than a straight remake. The framing around it suggests a structure similar to Final Fantasy VII Remake, where the new version both retells and extends the original story rather than simply recreating it.

That changes the calculus. Assassin's Creed Shadows received a free update called Black Tides that directly bridges into Black Flag Resynced's story, which means Shadows is the more relevant lead-in for anyone who wants full narrative context going into July 9. At $31.50 during the sale, it's also the best-priced recent entry in the franchise.

If you're navigating sale picks across multiple games this season, our gaming guides cover a range of titles worth your time. For a closer look at how sale timing affects what's actually worth buying, the War Thunder May Sale breakdown is a useful reference for thinking through sale value versus hype.

The Steam Summer Sale runs for a limited window, so if the older entries interest you, the discounts on Origins ($9), Odyssey ($12), and Valhalla ($15) represent the best value-per-hour in the lineup. Those three RPG-era games alone clock in at well over 200 hours of content combined. Black Flag will still be $40 when the sale ends. Whether Ubisoft discounts it before or after Resynced launches on July 9 is the real question worth watching.
