Sony opens Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble pre-registrations on iOS and Android - Notebookcheck News

The next wave of free mobile games is already in players' hands, just not yours yet. Across the App Store and Google Play, some of the biggest publishers in the business are quietly running soft launches, stress-testing new titles in select regions before a wider rollout. The list of games currently in testing reads like a who's who of mobile gaming's heaviest hitters.

The headline titles you need to watch

Blizzard is the name that stands out most. The studio has been developing Overwatch Rush, a top-down mobile-exclusive hero shooter set in the Overwatch universe. It is described as being in early development, but the iOS build has already registered over 10,000 downloads in the Philippines alone. That number suggests testing is further along than Blizzard's cautious messaging implies.

EA and PopCap have taken Plants vs. Zombies 3: Evolved live in the Philippines, UK, Malaysia, and Singapore, with EA promising news on a broader rollout soon. PvZ has had a complicated mobile history, so this version carries real weight for fans who have been waiting years for a proper follow-up.

Hoyoverse is moving into cosy territory with Petit Planet, a life sim from the makers of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Pre-registration is open after multiple beta rounds, though no firm release date has been set. Given Hoyoverse's track record of building long-running live service games, this one is worth watching closely.

Supercell, Rovio, and the franchise extensions

Supercell has two notable projects in motion. Boat Game, a third-person looter-shooter, is approaching soft launch on Google Play across 29 markets including the US, Canada, and most of Europe. That is a wide test pool, which usually signals a global launch is not far off.

Rovio (now under Sega) is expanding its Angry Birds universe in two directions simultaneously. Angry Birds Match World is a match-3 entry currently live on iOS in the Philippines, UK, Australia, Canada, and Finland. Sonic Blitz, a character-collecting battler, is pulling downloads in Brazil and the Philippines on both iOS and Android.

tip
Soft launch regions are not random. Publishers tend to use countries like the Philippines, Canada, and Australia because their player demographics closely mirror global averages, making them ideal for testing monetization and retention before committing to a worldwide release.

PlayStation Mobile is also in the mix with Ratchet and Clank: Ranger Rumble, a multiplayer platformer arena shooter currently live in France, Denmark, Finland, Indonesia, Norway, Sweden, and the Philippines. Pre-registration is open now.

The games flying under the radar

Beyond the big franchises, a few smaller titles deserve attention. Field Day from Finnish studio Bit Odd blends MOBA and extraction shooter mechanics, and the team behind it includes senior veterans from the Clash of Clans and Clash Royale development teams at Supercell. That pedigree alone makes it worth tracking.

Spin Siege from Rollic plays like a Vampire Survivors-style game and is already generating downloads across the US, Russia, Turkey, Italy, and France. If you enjoy that auto-battler format on mobile, check out our gaming guides for tips on getting the most out of games in that genre.

Monster Hunter Outlanders, the Capcom and Tencent collaboration, is still in beta with a worldwide release expected before the end of the year. That one has been in testing long enough that a global launch feels imminent.

What this pipeline means for mobile players

The sheer volume of soft launches happening simultaneously points to a mobile market that is more competitive than ever. Publishers are not just releasing games, they are iterating aggressively in public before committing to global marketing budgets.

For players, that means the best free games of the second half of 2026 are already playable if you happen to be in the right region. PUBG Mobile remains one of the benchmarks for free-to-play done right on mobile, and if you are already playing it, the PUBG Mobile redeem codes guide is worth bookmarking for free UC and weapon skins.

Fortnite fans curious about what is and is not available on mobile right now should check the Fortnite Save the World mobile availability guide before downloading anything, since the mode's platform support is more limited than most players expect.

With Overwatch Rush, PvZ 3, Ratchet and Clank, and Monster Hunter Outlanders all moving toward global release, the second half of the year is shaping up to be one of the busiest periods for free mobile gaming in recent memory.
