The $30 Shooter That Outperforms Six-Figure Mil Training Rigs — On a Few Axes That Matter: Bodycam's “Locked & Loaded” Update | by Berend Watchus | Aug, 2026 | OSINT Team

Bodycam was already one of the more interesting shooters in early access, but today it crossed a milestone that most games never reach: a new all-time concurrent player record on Steam, set within half an hour of a major update going live. Reissad Studio confirmed the news themselves, posting that Bodycam surpassed its previous all-time peak from two years ago just 30 minutes after the Locked and Loaded update deployed. The peak hit 32,343 concurrent players, comfortably clearing numbers the game saw at its original Steam launch in 2024.

That is not a slow burn. That is a community that had been waiting.

What Locked and Loaded actually adds

Here's the thing: the player count spike makes a lot more sense once you look at what shipped with this update. Locked and Loaded is not a content drop. It is closer to a structural rebuild of the game.

The headline feature is a full loadout system with 400 attachments, each carrying real gameplay effects depending on what you slot in. That is not cosmetic padding. Attachments that change how a gun handles, how it sounds, and how it performs in a firefight give players a genuine reason to experiment rather than just equip the highest-rarity item and move on.

Six new weapons arrived alongside the system:

  • BK-101 shotgun
  • Rivington sniper rifle
  • SG9-X machine pistol
  • Veaper machine pistol
  • SG5-X machine pistol (returning weapon)
  • CR-75 pistol

Optics and magnifiers have been reworked from scratch, animations have been overhauled, and new first-person arms were designed specifically to push the immersion further. For a game that markets itself on hyper-realistic presentation, that last point matters more than it might in any other shooter.

Bodycam is still in early access and has not reached its 1.0 release. Reissad Studio has confirmed development will continue through the early access phase, so expect further changes.

Beyond the guns

The weapons and loadout system are the obvious talking points, but the rest of the update is just as substantial. Melee combat has been fully implemented. Drones and RC cars are now in the game. Grenades have been significantly reworked. Audio has been rebuilt from the ground up, which for a game this focused on realism is not a minor patch note.

VOIP has been rebuilt entirely. A new shooting range sits inside a persistent, explorable hub. The new map, fittingly called Trenches, introduces trench warfare to the game's setting and sounds genuinely miserable in the best possible way.

Lighting and weather have both been overhauled. A host migration system is now in place. Progression has been revisited, the UI has been redesigned, and networking improvements arrived alongside the rest. What most players miss when big updates drop is how much the backend work matters. Better networking and host migration alone can keep a playerbase from bouncing off a game after a frustrating session.

The numbers in context

Peaking at 32,343 concurrent players is meaningful for any game, but it carries extra weight for a title still in early access that launched with a relatively small team behind it. The previous all-time peak dated back to 2024, which means Locked and Loaded did not just bring back lapsed players. It pulled in new ones.

Reissad Studio's own post framing this as "BODYCAM IS BACK" suggests they knew this update was a reset moment for the game. The 30-minute window before the record fell tells you the community was sitting at the ready.
