US-based esports organization Cloud9 has partnered with web3 infrastructure provider Theta Network to build an AI-powered chatbot called Nimbus. The project brings together artificial intelligence and esports engagement in a way that aims to make fan interaction more structured and responsive.
Set to launch in 2025, Nimbus will function as a Cloud9-branded chatbot that delivers real-time tournament updates, team statistics, and personalized insights to users on Discord and Cloud9's own platforms. The goal is to give fans a conversational way to access relevant information during matches and between events.

Club9 Loyalty Program
Beyond answering questions and serving up stats, Nimbus will plug into Cloud9's Club9 loyalty program. Users can earn experience points (XP) by interacting with the chatbot in meaningful ways. As XP accumulates, fans unlock exclusive rewards and climb the ranks within the Club9 community. It's a straightforward system designed to keep fans engaged and coming back.

Cloud9 co-founder and CEO Jack Etienne framed the partnership as part of the organization's ongoing push for innovation and fan engagement in esports. The partnership with Theta Network is meant to go beyond delivering match data by encouraging fans to engage in new and more personalized ways.
Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, pointed to the analytical nature of esports audiences and described the project as a chance to build technology that matches how fans interact with competitive gaming. He highlighted that Theta's edge computing infrastructure would support the chatbot's real-time performance and enable deeper integration into Cloud9's loyalty program.

Broader Context of web3 and Esports Integration
The Cloud9 and Theta Network partnership fits into a wider pattern in esports, where organizations are testing web3 technologies. Team Liquid has worked with the Sui blockchain, and Ninjas in Pyjamas has partnered with the Socios platform operated by Chiliz. These projects reflect a shift toward digital tools that aim to improve fan interaction, loyalty programs, and content distribution.
Nimbus is positioned to offer a more direct and responsive channel for esports fans to stay informed and engaged. As the project moves forward, Cloud9 and Theta Network will likely continue refining its features ahead of the 2025 launch.
