Pearl Abyss is launching Charting the Unknown, the first DLC for Crimson Desert, on October 29 at 3 PM PDT (11 PM CET), bringing underwater exploration to Pywel.

Pywel's coastline becomes a starting point

A stretch of ocean now offers more than a view. Charting the Unknown lets players build their own ships and sail to new islands, extending exploration beyond the continent.

Below the surface, players can craft diving suits to search for ancient ruins and hidden treasure. New enemies await underwater, too, giving those expeditions something to worry about besides finding the next haul.

Those additions build on the large open world examined in the Crimson Desert review, while giving players more activities between fights. The expansion also brings changes to what happens back on dry land.

New chapters for Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane

Charting the Unknown follows Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as they work out what comes next after protecting Pywel. Each character gets a new journey, with the expansion adding stories and epilogues beyond the original adventure.

The settlement systems expand as well:

  • Castles: Certain liberated castles allow players to decorate both courtyards and interiors.

That split gives players still working through Crimson Desert access to the expansion's side activities, while keeping its follow-up stories behind the campaign's conclusion.

Launch downloads and a five-hour trial

Charting the Unknown releases for Crimson Desert Enhanced on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Mac, and the Epic Games Store. A separate update must be downloaded and installed before the expansion.

PS5 players can preload the DLC ahead of launch. Xbox Series X|S and PC players must wait until it goes live to download it.

The release follows a delay from October 16, with Pearl Abyss allowing additional development time for polish and stability work.

Alongside the DLC launch, PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe members and Xbox Series X|S players can try Crimson Desert Enhanced free for five hours.
