Here's the thing: Darksiders Warmastered Edition has been available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One for years. The Steam page has carried the game for a while, making it accessible to PC players who wanted to revisit the original hack-and-slash action-adventure. The Warmastered Edition itself isn't new territory. The game's progression loop holds up well. You unlock abilities, upgrade weapons using souls collected from enemies, and work through a series of interconnected areas that reward exploration. War's mount Ruin, a fiery phantom steed, also factors into combat and traversal in ways that still feel distinct compared to the genre's current offerings.

At $29.99, this sits in a comfortable spot for a remaster of a 15-year-old game. The original Darksiders has a dedicated fanbase that's been waiting for a reason to replay it on current hardware, and newcomers get a well-constructed action-adventure that holds its own despite its age. The combat isn't as fluid as modern entries in the genre, but the dungeon design and world-building remain genuinely impressive.
What most players miss when they dismiss older remasters is the context they provide for the series. Darksiders established the tone and lore that carried through Darksiders II, Darksiders III, and Darksiders Genesis. Playing through War's story on current-gen hardware before any potential new entry in the franchise makes a lot of sense.
