Deltarune Chapter 5 Pink Secret Boss Guide: Location, Answers & Rewards

DELTARUNE players who have been bouncing off the Chapter 5 secret boss can finally breathe. Toby Fox has officially confirmed that Pink, the game's fifth optional secret boss, is getting nerfed in an upcoming patch, with the announcement dropping alongside a new update already live on PC and PlayStation.

Pink's reputation for being brutal is well-earned

Every chapter of Deltarune has tucked away an optional secret boss who drops a Shadow Crystal on defeat. Jevil in Chapter 1, Spamton NEO in Chapter 2, the Knight in Chapter 3, Gerson in Chapter 4, and now Pink in Chapter 5. Each one raises the difficulty bar, but Pink has built a reputation that stands out even in that company.

The key here is what makes Pink so punishing: a series of bomb attacks pulled directly from the Bomberman series. The attack patterns are dense, fast, and leave very little margin for error, which has pushed a significant chunk of the player base into a wall they can't seem to get past. Pink isn't just hard in the way Jevil was hard. Pink is hard in a way that has players questioning whether the fight is tuned correctly.

Apparently, Toby Fox agrees.

What the current patch changes and what comes next

The update already released on PC and PlayStation addresses several issues in Chapter 5, but the bigger news is what it signals. The official Undertale/Deltarune account confirmed that a third and final patch is on the way, and that patch will specifically target Pink's bomb attacks with a nerf.

This is the third patch in the chapter's post-launch cycle, which suggests Fox has been actively monitoring how players are engaging with the content since release. Secret bosses in Deltarune are optional by design, but they're also meant to be beatable, and the community feedback on Pink clearly crossed a threshold.

The Pink nerf has not yet been applied. The current live patch is separate. Players who want to attempt the fight at its current difficulty level should do so before the next patch drops.

What the nerf actually changes in mechanical terms hasn't been fully detailed, but the bomb attacks are the confirmed target. Those patterns are where most players are losing runs, so even a modest adjustment to timing or density could make a meaningful difference.

How Pink compares to the other secret bosses

Here's a quick look at where each chapter's secret boss sits in the lineup:

All five are optional. All five reward a Shadow Crystal. But Pink is the first to prompt a developer-confirmed nerf mid-patch cycle, which says something about just how far the difficulty gap stretched.

If you're still working through the fight before the nerf lands, the Deltarune Chapter 5 secret boss guide breaks down how to find Pink and what strategies give you the best shot at the current version of the fight.

What most players miss about secret boss progression

The Shadow Crystal drops aren't just collectibles. They tie into a larger system across all five chapters, which makes Pink a fight you'll want to complete eventually regardless of how the nerf lands. Skipping the secret bosses entirely means leaving part of the game's connective tissue on the table.

For players still getting oriented in Chapter 5 more broadly, the full Deltarune strategy guides collection covers everything from the Orange and Green boss fight at Flower Castle to the hidden FRIEND encounter that unlocks Pink's secret dialogue. The patch is coming, but the rest of the chapter has plenty to keep you occupied in the meantime.
