Sony packed a serious amount of content into its September State of Play, running a two-part broadcast that covered both a standard showcase and a dedicated State of Play Japan segment. If you missed it live, here's everything that dropped.
The headliners you actually care about
Marvel's Wolverine got its launch trailer, and it arrives on PS5 on September 15. Insomniac's take on Logan looks like it's weaving together several X-Men storylines, with the Sentinels hunting mutants sitting front and center. It's fully playable on disc at launch, which is increasingly rare these days.
The show closed with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in Square Enix's remake trilogy, finally getting a release date: April 8, 2027. Cid and Vincent are both playable this time around, which is something fans have been waiting on since Remake dropped. Cloud and crew are finally going to face Sephiroth for real.
Until Dawn 2 from Firesprite Games also got a proper reveal. The sequel follows a ghost-hunting reality show crew who travel to Akishima Island and immediately get in way over their heads. Choice-and-consequence horror is back, launching January 28, 2027.
Ghost of Yotei gets bigger before it gets older
Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei is getting a Complete Edition on October 1, bundling the base game with two new additions: Echoes of Sekigahara, a story expansion, and Most Wanted, a roguelike-style combat survival mode where you build character loadouts and hunt waves of enemies. Jin from Ghost of Tsushima is a playable character in Most Wanted, which is a nice touch.

GTA 6 DualSense controllers and PS5 exclusives
Grand Theft Auto 6 itself didn't appear, but Sony announced two GTA 6-themed DualSense controllers arriving on November 19, with pre-orders opening September 10. If you want to know exactly what PS5 hardware advantages GTA 6 will use at launch, the GTA 6 PS5 exclusive features guide covers DualSense haptics, Tempest 3D audio, and load times in full.
The Japan segment and everything else
State of Play Japan brought a separate wave of announcements, most of them targeting anime and JRPG fans.
- Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is coming in 2027
- Fate/Extra Record launches January 28, 2027
- Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World arrives December 3, 2026, following characters Biana and Nera through the Kingdom of Witherwood
- Gundam Rogue Orbit locked in a March 5, 2027 release date
- Rhapsody in Scarlet from Konami blends 1920s New York aesthetics with fantasy combat
- Rev. NOiR, also from Konami, is a sci-fi fantasy action RPG due in 2027
- Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance got its first proper trailer, heading to the Forbidden Lands to hunt Elder Dragons in 2027
On the indie side, Double Fine's Keeper launched same-day on PS5. Hunter's Moon, a first-person historical narrative set during the English witch hunts, arrives October 26. Where the Seeds Fall from CygamesEdge, which has players descending the World Tree, hits November 5. Stupid Never Dies lets you play as a zombie fighting other monsters, out October 21.
Final Fantasy Resonance, the HD-2D retooling of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, launches October 22 with a demo available now.
PlayStation Plus and free updates
Saros is getting a free Zenith update adding New Game+, a boss rush mode, and expanded accessibility options, all arriving later this year.
PlayStation Plus additions confirmed during the show:
Sony also revealed an official 1,911-piece Lego PlayStation 1 set with Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas inside. No release date yet, but it exists and it looks great.
What's coming next
The sheer volume here is notable. Between October and April 2027, PS5 owners have Wolverine, Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition, Dragon Quest Monsters, Until Dawn 2, Fate/Extra Record, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation all landing in sequence. That's a dense stretch by any measure.
For everything else hitting PS5 this season, the gaming guides hub has release dates, pre-load times, and early access breakdowns as each game approaches launch.
