Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 Adds New Sanctuary Vault

The New Sanctuary vault in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 is locked behind a community Showdown event, and the required keycard isn't in the loot pool yet.

New Sanctuary vault in Fortnite ...

If you've been circling the New Sanctuary POI in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2and staring at that vault door wondering what you're missing, here's the short answer: nothing. You literally cannot open it right now, and that's entirely by design.

Epic Games has tied this vault to one of the season's biggest community-driven mechanics, and until players collectively unlock the right keycard, that door stays shut for everyone.

The Seven Compound Vault Key doesn't exist in the loot pool

Most vaults in Fortnite history follow a familiar formula: find a Boss NPC, eliminate them, grab their keycard, open the vault. The New Sanctuary Vault breaks that pattern entirely. The item needed to access it, the Seven Compound Vault Key, isn't in the game yet.

This isn't a bug or an oversight. It's a deliberate design choice tied directly to the ongoing Team Foundation vs. Team Ice King Showdown event, which is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious community mechanics Fortnite has attempted this season.

The Showdown event has players picking sides and competing through Rivalries to earn points for their chosen faction. The Seven Compound Vault Key is one of the rewards that Team Foundation can unlock by accumulating enough points through those Rivalries.

danger
Until the Fortnite community earns enough points for Team Foundation in the Showdown event, the New Sanctuary vault keycard will not appear in any loot pool, regardless of how many matches you play.

How the Showdown event controls the vault

The Showdown structure is built around two competing factions. Team Foundation fights for control of the New Sanctuary area, while Team Ice King battles over the Frigid Fortress POI, which has its own locked vault in the exact same situation.

Here's how the unlock chain works:

  • Players join either Team Foundation or Team Ice King at the start of the season
  • Each team earns points by completing Rivalries across matches
  • Reaching specific point thresholds unlocks rewards for that team, including vault keycards
  • Once a keycard enters the loot pool, players can acquire it by defeating a specific NPC, most likely The Foundation himself for the New Sanctuary key
  • That keycard can then be used to open the corresponding vault

So the vault opening isn't a solo achievement. It's a collective milestone.

What's already unlocked this season

Chapter 7 Season 2 launched with three vaults across the map, and only one is currently accessible.

The Squibbly Shores vault at the Lighthouse is the only one players can access right now. You fish for the keycard at a distinctive blue-tinted fishing spot near the Zero Point Shard, and the vault rewards include Blue and Purple rarity loot, with a chance at a Skyline Deployer and a Pro Fishing Rod.

The other two vaults are sitting dormant, waiting on the Showdown event to progress far enough.

What comes next

Once Team Foundation earns enough Showdown points to unlock the Seven Compound Vault Key, it will enter the loot pool and players will need to track down the relevant NPC to get their hands on it. The community's progress in the Showdown is visible in-game, so you can monitor how close Team Foundation is to hitting that threshold.

Epic has also left the door open for additional vaults later in the season. A possible Dark Voyager vault at Dark Dominion has been floated as a future addition, though nothing has been confirmed officially.
