Picture this: you're screaming down a Tokyo expressway in a Hennessey Venom F5, the speedometer climbing past 200mph, and a notification flashes across the screen rewarding you with 1,000 points. That's the Ultimate Speed Skill in action, and it's one of the most satisfying moments Forza Horizon 6 has to offer.
Speed Skills are one of the core skill types in the game, feeding directly into your Skill Chain multiplier and counting toward Festival Playlist challenges. Here's the lowdown on exactly how they work.
The four tiers and what they pay out
Speed Skills are tiered by the speed you sustain, and the point values scale up sharply as you push faster. According to the in-game description, you need to maintain a target speed "for a short distance," which plays out as several seconds of sustained driving at the required threshold.
The jump from Awesome Speed to Ultimate Speed is where things get interesting. Going from 175mph to 200mph only adds 25mph to the requirement, but the point reward quadruples. That makes hitting the 200mph threshold disproportionately valuable when you're trying to build a long Skill Chain.
Why Festival Playlist players need to pay attention
Speed Skills show up regularly as Festival Playlist objectives, and the wording matters. A challenge asking for "Great Speed Skills" specifically requires you to hit 150mph, not just any speed threshold. Earning a basic Speed Skill at 105mph won't count toward that objective.
If a Playlist challenge asks for a specific tier like "Great Speed" or "Awesome Speed," you need to hit that exact threshold. A lower-tier Speed Skill earned in the same run will not satisfy the requirement.
Free roam is the easiest place to farm these. Japan's highway network gives you long, straight stretches where a hypercar can hit and hold 200mph without much effort. Specific race events can make it harder since traffic and corners interrupt your speed runs.
The cars that make this trivial
What most players miss is that Speed Skills become dramatically easier once you have the right car in the garage. The fastest cars in Forza Horizon 6 can exceed 300mph, meaning Ultimate Speed Skills are essentially automatic on any decent straight. The Hennessey Venom F5 tops out at 304mph, which means you're clearing the 200mph bar with room to spare.
Drag-tuned builds are also strong here since they're optimized for straight-line acceleration and top speed rather than cornering. Getting to 200mph quickly means you spend more time in the Ultimate Speed tier per run, stacking points faster.

How Speed Skills connect to the bigger XP picture
Speed Skills don't exist in isolation. They feed into your Skill Chain, which multiplies all the points you accumulate before banking them. Chaining a series of Ultimate Speed Skills together with near-misses, drifts, or drafts can push a single run into tens of thousands of points. That translates directly into Skill Points used for Car Mastery perks and contributes to leveling up your Wristband tiers.
The key here is keeping the chain alive. Any collision resets it, so Japan's open highways are far more forgiving than urban areas when you're trying to stack Speed Skills back to back.
