Grand Theft Auto VI. Jason & Lucia ...

The GTA 6 hype machine is running at full tilt this week. Fans have locked onto May 23 as the date for the third and reportedly final trailer, and the reasoning behind it is hard to dismiss.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track for a November 19 launch, but between leaked pricing info, a Take-Two earnings call, and one very well-timed piece of American criminal history, the community is operating at peak speculation right now.

The Bonnie and Clyde connection that's hard to ignore

Here's the thing: Rockstar Games has always loved a good easter egg, and the May 23 theory leans directly into that reputation. The game's two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, draw heavy inspiration from Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the notorious American outlaw duo who robbed and murdered across a 21-month crime spree before meeting their end on exactly May 23, 1934.

Law enforcement officers, led by former Texas Ranger Frank Hamer, ambushed the pair on a rural road in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Around 130 bullets were fired into their stolen car. Both were killed almost instantly.

For Rockstar to drop Trailer 3 on that exact date would be the kind of wink-and-nod move the studio has pulled off before. The community noticed, and Reddit ran with it fast.

"Not going to lie, that's the best theory in ages," one Reddit user wrote. A second added: "I lowkey think the coolest under-talked aspect about GTA 6 is that it's a Bonnie and Clyde story." Not everyone is buying in, though. A third user put it bluntly: "And just like Bonnie and Clyde, your hopes for a trailer will die on May 23 as well."

Fair enough. After a year of near-misses and false starts, the skepticism is earned.

What the Take-Two earnings call changes

The timing of this theory isn't happening in a vacuum. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, is sitting down for its Q4 and annual earnings call on the evening of May 21. These calls have historically been where major GTA 6 details surface, and this one is expected to cover the full marketing rollout, including pricing information and the official pre-order launch.

Pre-orders were rumored to open earlier this week but never materialized. Scam listings have already appeared on at least one retail site, and Rockstar has not issued any official pre-order links. The key here is to wait for confirmation directly from Rockstar or major verified retailers before putting any money down.

Why May 23 as a trailer window makes sense beyond the theory

Pure narrative symmetry aside, the calendar logic actually holds up. A Trailer 3 drop on May 23 would give Rockstar roughly six months of marketing runway before the November 19 release date. That's a tight but workable window for pre-order campaigns, pricing announcements, and platform-specific content deals to roll out.

The first trailer dropped in December 2023 and the second followed in May 2025. A third trailer arriving now, with the earnings call providing official context the same week, would form a coherent marketing arc. Rockstar has been methodical about this campaign, and a May 23 drop fits the pattern.

What most players miss in the noise around trailer dates is that the earnings call itself is the more concrete event. Whatever Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says about pricing and the marketing timeline on May 21 will do more to shape the next few months than any trailer theory, however compelling.

For everything Rockstar confirms and any trailer that does land, the Grand Theft Auto 6 guide collection will be the place to track what it all means for players heading into launch.
