In a remarkable turn of events, Game Informer, the esteemed gaming magazine that ceased operations in August 2024, has been revived by Gunzilla Games. The studio behind Off The Grid has facilitated the return of the entire original team, reinstating both the digital and print editions of the publication.

The closure of Game Informer by its previous owner, GameStop, marked the end of a 33-year legacy in gaming journalism. The sudden shutdown left both the staff and the magazine's dedicated audience in disbelief. However, the unexpected outpouring of support from readers and industry professionals alike underscored the publication's significant impact on the gaming community.

Reviving Game Informer

Demonstrating a commitment to preserving the magazine's editorial independence, Gunzilla Games facilitated the return of the entire original team. Editor-in-Chief Matt Miller expressed his gratitude, stating: "The entire team that was working together at Game Informer's closure has returned, from editorial to production and beyond. The entire team. Seriously – I'm still pinching myself."

Under the new entity, Game Informer Inc., the magazine aims to continue its tradition of delivering in-depth coverage of the gaming industry. The website has been relaunched, featuring both archival content and new reviews of games released during the magazine's hiatus. Plans are underway to revive the print edition, much to the delight of long-time subscribers.

More about Off The Grid

Off The Grid is a high-end, third-person battle royale shooter that offers players both a fast-paced multiplayer experience and a 60-hour single-player campaign. The game incorporates blockchain technology through swappable cybernetic limbs and customizable weapons, all tradable as NFTs. The team recently reported reaching a significant milestone by surpassing 14 million unique users. The game continues to grow, with 2.5 million daily transactions and over 571,000 daily active players.

Legacy of Gaming Journalism

Gunzilla Games didn’t just save Game Informer from extinction; it invested in the legacy of gaming journalism itself. In doing so, it sent a loud and clear message: web3 gaming isn’t a passing trend — it’s a legitimate, evolving force with the capital, vision, and commitment to shape the future of the industry.

By reviving Game Informer with full editorial independence, Gunzilla isn’t trying to “buy legitimacy.” It’s demonstrating that the future of gaming media can still be rooted in trust, quality reporting, and community — values that align with the decentralized ethos of web3. If a web3-native studio can save one of the most iconic web2 publications in gaming history, maybe it's time the rest of the media ecosystem reconsiders its stance. The line between traditional and blockchain gaming is blurring, and publications that continue to ignore web3 risk being left behind as the industry evolves without them.
