Illuvium, a game studio founded by three brothers from Sydney, Australia, will launch three web3 games—Illuvium: Overworld, Illuvium: Arena, and Illuvium: Zero—on July 25. The studio has grown to over 250 employees, pulling in talent from Ubisoft, Activision, and CD Projekt Red. Each game offers different gameplay mechanics within a single universe, built around true asset ownership and a comprehensive in-game economy.

Illuvium's Portfolio of Games
The three titles in Illuvium's lineup target different player preferences while sharing a unified universe. Illuvium: Overworld drops players onto an alien planet where they capture creatures called Illuvials and piece together the world's backstory.
Illuvium: Arena shifts focus to tactical combat, letting players train their Illuvials and compete across various multiplayer modes. Illuvium: Zero, a mobile city-builder, centers on resource management and strategic expansion.
Development and Vision
Kieran Warwick, CEO of Illuvium, said the team originally planned to build one game. Creative disagreements among the three brothers pushed the project into three separate titles instead. The goal is to create the fastest triple-A gaming universe in history and prove what high-quality web3 games can deliver.
"Our original intention was to build one title, but being brothers and highly competitive, we couldn't agree on the genre and ended up building three games in different genres. We've probably wiped a collective 30 years off our lifespan, so we hope it's worth it."

Illuvium Roadmap
Innovative Gameplay and True Ownership
Illuvium's interconnected structure means progress and items carry across all three games. Players own their in-game assets outright, stored in their Immutable Passport wallet and verifiable on the Ethereum blockchain. This lets players collect, trade, and control their assets without restrictions.
In-Game Economy and Community Governance
The in-game currency, ILV, drives Illuvium's decentralized governance. Players earn ILV through milestones and convert points into ILV at the end of each season. Staking ILV gives players a say in the game's development and economic parameters, with rewards distributed through Revenue Distribution (RevDis).
Interoperability and Accessibility
Illuvium's standout feature is asset interoperability across its games. Players can use their Illuvials, cosmetics, and other assets in any of the three titles, creating a cohesive ecosystem. All games are free to play, with optional paid elements, designed to build a player base through gameplay and immersion rather than paywalls.
Illuvium: Overworld
In Overworld, players navigate a hostile alien environment to gather resources and repair their stranded ship. They hunt and capture Illuvials, each with distinct abilities, while uncovering the planet's secrets and their own forgotten past. The game features seven regions, each with unique challenges and rewards.
Illuvium: Arena
Arena gives players a platform to test their strategic skills. Starting with Survival mode, players can move into ranked, casual, and custom multiplayer matches. The combat system and customizable tactics keep the experience dynamic. An upcoming 8-player round-robin auto-battler will add another competitive layer.
Illuvium: Zero
Zero is a city-building game where players, as reconnaissance drones, develop their land, extract resources, and manage operations to support the Illuvium economy. The game integrates with Overworld and Arena, supporting players' broader adventures through strategic planning and collaborative interactions.
Final Thoughts
Illuvium's launch of three interconnected web3 games represents a significant step in blockchain gaming, demonstrating how the technology can enhance gameplay and asset ownership. With its focus on strategic gameplay and community participation, Illuvium aims to set a new standard for web3 games.
As the studio continues to expand and refine its approach, player reception and long-term impact will determine whether this model reshapes the space. For more information on Illuvium, check out their official website and social media account on X here.
