The Open Beta for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is locked in for July 24, giving players their first free shot at the 4v4 tag team fighter ahead of its August 6 full launch. No sign-up required, no subscription needed, just download and fight.
The beta runs for exactly 72 hours, starting July 24 at 12:00am PT and closing July 26 at 11:59pm PT. It lands simultaneously on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, with pre-downloads going live two hours before servers open. The only hard requirement across all platforms is an internet connection and a Sony account.
Who's on the roster for the beta
15 of the game's 20 launch characters are available during the Open Beta, spread across four team factions. The full playable lineup breaks down like this:
- Fighting Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther
- Unbreakable X-Men: Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger
- Amazing Guardians: Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker
- Samurai Outriders: Ghost Rider, Blade
- Knights of Doom: Doctor Doom, Magneto
Blade is the headline addition here, making his playable debut in the series for the first time during this beta window. Players will also get to battle across 6 stages, including Marvel's New York (Day and Night versions), Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, and Wakanda. Check the full Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls roster guide for the complete character breakdown, including the five characters held back for launch.
More than just online matches
Here's the thing that separates this Open Beta from the closed tests that ran last year: it's not just about online play. The full mode suite includes Casual Match, Ranked Match, and local Versus Mode for couch play or CPU practice.
The Open Lobby adds a social layer between fights. Players pick from 16 avatars with 4 color variations each, then move through miniature versions of the game's stages, chat with other players, and challenge opponents at arcade cabinets scattered around the space. It's a deliberate nod to older fighting game lobbies, and it works.
Training Mode is also fully available, letting players experiment with every character in the beta, practice combos, and configure dummy settings. For a tag fighter with this much roster depth, having unrestricted training access before ranked play opens is the right call.
Episode Mode gets an early preview
The most unexpected addition to the beta is a slice of Episode Mode, the game's story component. Players can run through the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline, following Spider-Man as he assembles his team against a threat aimed at Earth. The presentation uses motion-comic-style storytelling between fights, which lands well given the source material.
This is the first time Episode Mode has been accessible outside the full game, making it a genuine draw for players who were on the fence after last year's closed tests.
The beta also reflects the full localization players will get at launch: voiced dialogue in 10 languages including US English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese, with text-only support covering an additional 7 languages.
What changed since the closed betas
Players who participated in last year's closed tests will notice the game has moved. The team has refined mechanics and adjusted balance across the board based on community feedback, though the specific patch-level changes aren't detailed in the beta notes. The adjustments are described as making the experience more accessible without pulling back on the competitive ceiling.
The full game launches August 6. For a breakdown of everything available in the beta including exact start times by region and the complete confirmed content list, the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Open Beta guide has everything you need before July 24.
