Microsoft has launched a short-notice promotion giving players $5 in store credit for pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Xbox Series X/S or Windows PC through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store. The catch: the offer expires today, September 1, at 11:59pm EST.
A last-minute push to lock in Xbox pre-orders
The promotion was posted to the official Call of Duty X account on August 29, but the terms and conditions show it has technically been active since May 28. That means players who already pre-ordered on Xbox or PC after that date should be eligible without doing anything extra.
The $5 credit lands in your Microsoft account within 35 days of Modern Warfare 4's October 23 launch. You can find it under Offers & Credits in your profile. The credit must be redeemed by December 15, and once redeemed, you have 90 days to spend it across the Microsoft and Xbox stores.
The offer is valid across a wide list of regions including the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, most of Europe, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and more.
The loyalty discount angle worth knowing about
Here's the thing: the Vault Edition loyalty discount is available to players who own and have played any Call of Duty title released in the last several years. The qualifying list includes Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Modern Warfare 3 (2023), Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7. Games claimed through PlayStation Plus count, too.
The discount is platform-specific, though. You need to pre-order MW4 on the same platform where you played one of those older titles. So if your CoD history lives on PlayStation, the loyalty discount does not carry over to an Xbox purchase.
Switch 2 players get no loyalty discount at all, since none of the qualifying games were available on Nintendo hardware. Modern Warfare 4 is actually the first Call of Duty game to launch on a Nintendo platform in over a decade, so Switch 2 owners are starting fresh with no discount history to draw from.
What this means for players deciding where to buy
Five dollars is not a fortune, but it is a free $5 toward your next Xbox or PC purchase, which is a reasonable nudge if you were already on the fence about which platform to buy MW4 on. Combined with the Vault Edition loyalty discount, Xbox buyers with a qualifying CoD history could effectively get the $100 edition for $85.
Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Switch 2. If you want the full breakdown on editions, bonuses, and what each version includes, the MW4 pre-order guide has everything laid out. And if you grabbed a beta code and want to know how to redeem it, check the Modern Warfare 4 beta code redemption guide before the beta window closes.
