Duty: Modern Warfare 4 - Vault Edition ...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is heading to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 23, 2026, with Nintendo Switch 2 support confirmed but pre-orders opening at a later date. Developed by Infinity Ward, this is the fourth and final chapter in the rebooted Modern Warfare saga, set on the Korean Peninsula where players join a South Korean military squad facing a full-scale invasion. Captain John Price returns as well, leading a rogue task force on a separate front. Pre-orders are live now across all major storefronts, and there are real decisions to make before you commit.

What editions are available for Modern Warfare 4?

There are two purchasable editions: the Standard Edition at $69.99 and the Vault Edition at $99.99. Both are available digitally on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Battle.net. Physical copies of the Standard Edition are available at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop. The Vault Edition is digital-only.

Standard vs. Vault Edition

Standard vs. Vault Edition

Standard Edition ($69.99)

The Standard Edition includes the full base game with Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ. Pre-ordering gets you two universal bonuses that apply regardless of where you buy:

  • Open Beta Early Access: The earliest possible entry into the upcoming multiplayer beta. Exact beta dates have not been announced.
  • Hunter Killer Operator Skin: Usable immediately in Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 7 upon redemption, then carries over into MW4 at launch.

Physical pre-orders come with retailer-specific extras. Best Buy includes an exclusive steelbook case with wrap-around art on PS5 and Xbox physical copies. Amazon adds a five-hour 2XP bonus item to physical pre-orders.

Vault Edition ($99.99)

The Vault Edition is digital-only and stacks everything in the Standard Edition on top of a significant amount of additional content:

  • Hostile Alliance Operator Pack: Four operator skins covering Price, Valeria, Ghost, and Blix
  • Special Forces Operator Pack: Four international military operators representing the United Kingdom (SAS), Germany (KSK Amphibious), France (COM SFT), and South Korea, each with voice packs in their local languages
  • Signature Weapon Collection: Five weapon blueprints across different weapon classes
  • BlackCell Season 1 Pass: Includes the full Battle Pass, 20 Tier Skips, and 1,100 COD Points
  • DMZ Deployment Bonus: Additional startup perks and bonus stash materials for the DMZ extraction mode

What weapons come with the Vault Edition signature collection?

The five blueprints in the Signature Weapon Collection each pair a specific weapon with a named skin:

  • Kastov 762 Assault Rifle with the "Voltspine" blueprint
  • ISO Nightshade SMG with the "La Sombra Venenosa" blueprint
  • Rezi 12 Shotgun with the "Shattered Code" blueprint
  • Oris 8.6 Marksman Rifle with the "Volt-Edge" blueprint
  • Combat Knife (Melee) with the "Sombra Besada" blueprint

Which edition should you buy?

The honest answer depends on how deep you go with Call of Duty each year. If you play the campaign, run a few multiplayer sessions with friends, and don't touch the seasonal Battle Pass, the Standard Edition at $69.99 does the job. Spending an extra $30 on cosmetics and a Battle Pass you won't use doesn't make sense.

If you're a regular in multiplayer or DMZ and you typically buy the Battle Pass each season anyway, the Vault Edition math works in your favor. The BlackCell Season 1 bundle alone normally costs around $30 separately, so you're effectively getting 8 operator skins, 5 weapon blueprints, and the DMZ bonus for no additional cost over that.

One important caveat: the upgrade path from Standard to Vault ($29.99) only works for digital purchases. If you buy a physical copy of the Standard Edition, you cannot upgrade to the Vault Edition later.

Is Modern Warfare 4 on Xbox Game Pass?

No. Unlike previous Call of Duty titles, MW4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. This is a direct result of Xbox's recent changes to how Call of Duty releases are handled on the service. If you're a Game Pass subscriber who was expecting to play at no additional cost, you'll need to purchase the game separately.

Where to pre-order Modern Warfare 4

Digital pre-orders are available now on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, and Battle.net. Physical pre-orders for PS5 and Xbox are live at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop. Switch 2 pre-orders will open at a later date.

MW4 is shaping up to be one of the bigger releases in the shooter games calendar this year, and getting your pre-order sorted now locks in the beta access before dates are even announced.
