Minecraft Launcher Error - Java Edition ...

You fire up the Minecraft Launcher, hit play, and get hit with a wall of red text instead of your world. If that sounds familiar right now, you are not alone.

Minecraft is currently down for players across the board. The outage started around 12:30 AM PT on June 1, with reports flooding in almost immediately. This is not a connection issue on your end.

What the error messages are actually telling you

Players attempting to launch through the official Minecraft Launcher are running into two specific messages. The first reads: "Oh no! Something went wrong, and we couldn't connect to the Minecraft services. Please connect to the internet to refresh your offline access." The second is more telling: "We were unable to verify what products you own. Please check your internet connection."

That second message is the key here. It points directly at an authentication server failure, not a general network problem. Mojang's auth servers are responsible for verifying your account and confirming which products you have purchased. When those go down, the game simply cannot confirm you have a valid license, and it refuses to launch.

The outage is also hitting players using third-party launchers like Prism and CurseForge, which means this is not an issue isolated to the official client. If authentication is broken, it is broken everywhere.

danger

Checking Xbox Live's status page shows everything as operational, which has caused some confusion. The problem is specifically with Minecraft's own authentication layer, not Xbox Live broadly.

How rare is a Minecraft outage?

Full-scale Minecraft outages are genuinely uncommon. The last major one happened in October 2025, when a widespread Microsoft Azure cloud disruption pulled down authentication and Xbox Live services simultaneously. That was an infrastructure-level event affecting far more than just Minecraft.

This current outage appears narrower in scope but no less frustrating for the millions of players who log in daily. Multiplayer sessions, Minecraft Realms, and server-based play are all affected alongside standard single-player launches, since the game requires an authentication check even before you reach your worlds.

Mojang Support had not posted any acknowledgment on their official channels at the time of writing. Players have been piecing together the situation themselves through community reports and outage-tracking tools.

What players are seeing across the community

The wave of reports on outage-tracking platforms spiked sharply after 12:30 AM PT, which lines up with the authentication failure window. Social media has been full of players wondering whether the issue is on their end, with many initially suspecting their own internet before realizing the scope of the problem.

Here's the thing: the Xbox Live dashboard showing green across all services made the situation harder to diagnose quickly. Players who went looking for an official status page found nothing obviously wrong, which added to the confusion before community reports made the picture clearer.

The outage affects the full player base regardless of platform, launcher choice, or account type. If you are trying to play right now, the honest answer is to wait it out.

While you are sitting on the sidelines, it is worth knowing that the Minecraft guides collection has plenty to keep you occupied once servers are back up, including a deep look at the best Minecraft mods available right now if you want to plan your next session properly.
