Paradox Interactive Is Deleting Inactive PDX Accounts

Your Paradox Interactive account might be on borrowed time. If you haven't touched your PDX account since before September 2025 and you play games like Crusader Kings III, Cities: Skylines, or anything else in the Paradox catalog, now is a good time to dust that login off.

What Paradox actually announced

Paradox Interactive posted a notice warning players that it is cleaning up its user base by removing accounts that have been completely dormant. The cutoff is straightforward: any PDX account with no login activity since September 2025 is flagged for deletion. The actual purge is scheduled for March 2027, which gives players a reasonable window to act.

The official message from Paradox reads: "If you haven't logged into your PDX account for a long time, now is the time to do so: we are cleaning up inactive PDX accounts that have been dormant since September 2025. This will only happen in March 2027, and we want to make sure everyone has enough time to log in and keep their account."

Here's the lowdown: logging in once through any Paradox game launcher is enough to secure the account. You don't need to buy anything, verify anything, or jump through extra hoops.

The Steam library panic that wasn't

When the announcement hit, a chunk of the Paradox community immediately started worrying about their game libraries. That reaction makes sense. The idea of losing access to a collection you've built over years is genuinely alarming, especially when some Paradox games carry significant DLC costs.

A Paradox Interactive community representative using the handle Elmaze stepped in quickly to clarify the situation. The message was direct: deleting a PDX account does not touch your Steam library. Games purchased through Steam are tied to your Steam account, not your PDX account, so they remain fully intact regardless of what happens to the latter.

important
If you have an unactivated game code sitting in your PDX account and you can't find the original email, Paradox says it can restore access through the same process used for standard account recovery. So even that edge case has a path forward.

Who actually needs to pay attention

Most active Paradox players are probably fine. If you've launched Stellaris, Hearts of Iron IV, or any other Paradox title through its launcher in the last year or so, your account almost certainly registered activity well past the September 2025 threshold.

The players who should genuinely check are those who bought a Paradox game years ago, played it through Steam without ever touching the PDX launcher again, and haven't thought about their account since. That's a pretty specific group, but it's not a small one given how long some of these games have been around.

What most players miss is that the PDX account system quietly runs in the background of a lot of Paradox games. You might have one and not even remember creating it.

The key here is acting before March 2027

Paradox has given players nearly two years of notice before the deletion actually happens, which is a fair amount of runway. The fix takes about 30 seconds: open any Paradox game launcher, sign into your PDX account, and you're done. The account resets its activity status and stays off the deletion list.

For players who want to get back into the Paradox ecosystem while they're at it, there's no shortage of content to return to. Check out our gaming guides for tips across a wide range of titles if you're looking for a reason to log back in and actually play something.

The March 2027 deadline is far enough out that there's no need to panic, but close enough that it's worth bookmarking as a task to handle sooner rather than later. Accounts with unactivated codes are the one scenario where waiting too long could create a minor headache, even if Paradox has promised a recovery process exists.

Paradox's willingness to communicate this well in advance and clarify the Steam library situation quickly is the right call. The cleanup itself is standard practice for any platform managing millions of accounts, and the player impact is minimal as long as the word gets out. If you've got a dormant PDX account, consider this your heads-up to log in before the deadline arrives.
