Pokémon TCG Pocket Sees Six-Month Revenue High on 30th Anniversary

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket reached a six-month high in daily revenue on February 27th, generating $4.7 million. The increase coincided with Pokémon Day, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the franchise. According to AppMagic estimates, this figure represents a 57% increase from the previous day and a 486% rise compared to the same period one week earlier.

The surge was supported by the launch of a new card set, Paldean Wonders, which added over 130 cards primarily themed around the 2022 Nintendo Switch titles Scarlet and Violet, set in the Paldea region. Only a small number of cards in the set feature Pokémon or characters from previous games. The timing of the set release helped boost engagement among both returning and new players.

Anniversary Presentation Highlights New Content

The Pokémon Company marked its anniversary with a Pokémon Presents livestream, which was watched by over three million viewers on YouTube. The presentation showcased several upcoming projects, including Switch 2 titles Winds and Waves, the competitive battler Pokémon Champions, and updates for multiple mobile games, such as Pokémon Go, Pokémon Sleep, Pokémon Masters EX, and TCG Pocket itself. The exposure from this livestream coincided with the Paldean Wonders release, driving player attention and in-game spending.

Consistent Updates Support Player Engagement

Since its release in October 2024, TCG Pocket has maintained a regular release schedule, introducing new card sets every four to six weeks. Each set typically draws on different eras of Pokémon games, ranging from the early Red and Blue titles to later favorites such as Diamond and Pearl and Gold and Silver. This strategy has helped the game maintain long-term engagement and consistent player spending.

For the anniversary, developer DeNA also offered 30 days of in-game gift missions, including over a dozen free card packs and additional resources. Paid in-game items remained available as well, allowing players to supplement free rewards with purchased content.

Revenue Milestones and Performance

TCG Pocket earned $1.3 billion in its first year, exceeding the first-year revenue of Pokémon Go. While daily spending remains below its peak of $11.2 million, achieved on February 1st, 2025, the latest increase demonstrates that the title can still generate significant player activity and revenue when new cards and events are introduced.
