RavenIdle Backend Rebuild Underway

RavenIdle, the idle RPG from Tavernlight Games, was set to go live on July 4 with a massive community-backed prize pool that could grow to $570,000. Instead, the launch lasted only a few minutes before the game was pulled offline. Backend instability couldn't keep up with the wave of players, forcing the studio to halt the rollout and return to internal development.

The game is part of the RavenQuest universe and runs on Immutable's web3 infrastructure, offering idle combat with a risk-to-earn setup where Battle Pass revenue funds player rewards. The backend collapsed almost immediately under real player traffic. Nicolas Schrik, CEO and Game Director of RavenQuest, addressed the situation in two video updates on the game's X account.

Schrik explained that the backend system wasn't built to handle even a modest player base. The infrastructure had been developed by an outside partner before being moved in-house, but it wasn't ready for launch conditions. "It just wasn't built properly," Schrik said. "It wasn't scalable even for a small player base, and we didn't expect the amount of traffic RavenIdle ended up generating."

Senior Engineers Lead Full System Rebuild

Tavernlight has brought in its most experienced backend engineers to handle a complete rebuild. Some of these developers have been with the studio for more than a decade and are now leading the charge to restructure the system from the ground up. The goal is to complete backend-to-frontend integration within a week, but no new launch date has been confirmed yet.

The core gameplay systems, UI, and front-end features weren't impacted by the launch failure. Internal playtests reportedly showed solid performance, but the backend couldn't handle real-world traffic. With the rebuild underway, the team is focused on delivering a more stable experience before relaunching.

More Content and No Prize Pool Cap

Tavernlight isn't just fixing the backend — they're also using the delay to expand the game. Several features planned for future seasons are now being pushed into Season 0. That includes optional PvP, a Gladiator Arena, and a fishing mini-game. The team is also removing the prize pool cap, allowing it to scale indefinitely with Battle Pass sales. Tavernlight is adding extra funds to reward early supporters and strengthen the game's economy from day one. Community feedback is being collected across Discord and X, helping guide the expanded feature set while the technical work continues.

Transparent Communication and a Second Chance

Schrik was direct about the failure, comparing it to forgetting Christmas gifts for your kids. He admitted that the backend hadn't been tested under the right conditions and took responsibility for the breakdown. "This is on us," he said. "We didn't test what needed to be tested. We're rebuilding the right way, and we'll deliver something better than we planned."

A full pre-release stress test is planned before the next launch. While Tavernlight hasn't locked in a new date, the updated build will feature more content and improved infrastructure, aiming to deliver a smoother experience when it returns. The delay doesn't affect the wider RavenQuest universe. The upcoming Treasures Below expansion is still on schedule, and to keep the community engaged, Tavernlight has launched a double XP and loot week in RavenQuest as a goodwill gesture.

RavenIdle's launch didn't go as planned, but Tavernlight is treating the delay as an opportunity to fix core issues and come back with a better product. When it returns, the game will be backed by a stronger system, more content, and a clearer focus on long-term stability.
