Readyverse has locked in two major partnerships for Open, its upcoming battle royale game launching on PC and consoles. The metaverse gaming platform is bringing in Neo Tokyo's NFT community and Wētā Workshop, the New Zealand studio behind The Lord of the Rings film props and game development work.

Readyverse Teams Up with Neo Tokyo and Wētā Workshop
Neo Tokyo characters join the roster
The Neo Tokyo deal brings the NFT community's Citizens characters into Open's playable roster. This marks another IP integration for Readyverse, which has already partnered with Cool Cats, Reebok, and DeLorean. The platform also has access to Ready Player One IP through co-founder Ernest Cline, who wrote the original book. These deals position Open as a metaverse game pulling from multiple pop culture and digital communities rather than building everything from scratch.

Wētā Workshop handles visual design
Wētā Workshop is taking on conceptual visual design for Open. The studio, known for crafting props, weapons, armor, costumes, and miniatures for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is working to give the game a distinct visual identity. Richard Taylor, CEO of Wētā Workshop, described the project as a chance to push creative boundaries in a new format. "At Wētā Workshop, we've always tried to push the limits of storytelling and design, and our work with Open has given us the exceptional opportunity to do just this," Taylor said.
The studio's involvement should differentiate Open's art direction from the dozens of other games competing in the battle royale space. Whether that translates to actual gameplay appeal depends on execution, but Wētā's track record suggests the game will at least look polished.

Building a multi-IP metaverse game
Readyverse is betting on a mix of licensed characters, strong visual design, and web3 integration to carve out space in a competitive genre. The Neo Tokyo and Wētā Workshop partnerships add credibility on both the community and production sides. How well these elements come together in the final game remains to be seen, but the pieces are falling into place for a metaverse experience that pulls from multiple creative sources.
