Assassin, Leap of Faith. : r/gaming

Professional freerunner and Red Bull athlete Lilou Ruel just turned one of gaming's most iconic animations into a real-world world record. Ruel leapt 18.2 meters into a massive haystack, breaking the record for the highest haystack jump ever performed and directly recreating the Leap of Faith made famous by Assassin's Creed III and the broader franchise.

18.2 meters: what that number actually means

To put 18.2 meters in perspective, that is roughly the height of a six-story building. Ruel is a professional stuntwoman with freerunning credentials, and even she started screaming on the way down as the ground rushed up. The moment was captured in a Red Bull video that went viral almost immediately after posting.

She landed unharmed, and the celebration from her crew was immediate. On Instagram, Ruel kept things light: "Thank you, Red Bull, for giving me wings for a few seconds. I do think we can go way higher, should we try?"

That last line is either a joke or a challenge to herself. Given what she just pulled off, both feel equally plausible.

This record has already been broken once this year

Here's the thing: this is actually the second time a Red Bull athlete has set this specific record in 2026. Back in May, Dominic Tommasso jumped 18.1 meters into a haystack while dressed as Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, tying the stunt to that game's release. Ruel's jump nudges the record up by 0.1 meters, which sounds small until you are the one standing at the top.

The timing of Ruel's attempt comes hot on the heels of Black Flag Resynced's launch on July 9, 2026, a game that sold 2 million copies in its first 24 hours and has since crossed 3 million copies sold. Ubisoft has confirmed a New Game Plus mode is in development. The franchise is clearly having a moment, and Red Bull is leaning into the cultural energy around it.

The Leap of Faith as a cultural touchstone

The Leap of Faith has been part of Assassin's Creed DNA since the original game. It became a genuine cultural phenomenon years ago, inspiring real-life freerunners and parkour athletes to attempt their own versions. What Red Bull is doing now is more structured and record-driven, but the impulse is the same: the animation is so satisfying that people want to feel it for real.

What most players miss is how much of that satisfaction comes from the sound design and the camera angle rather than the height itself. Ruel's real-world version strips all of that away and leaves only the physics, which apparently still delivers.

For anyone who wants to revisit what makes the Leap of Faith so compelling in-game, the Assassin's Creed III guides are a solid starting point for understanding the traversal systems that built the franchise's identity.

What comes next for the record

Ruel's own Instagram comment suggests she thinks the ceiling is higher, literally. Whether Red Bull organizes another attempt or a different athlete steps up, the record now sits at 18.2 meters. The bar keeps rising, and the franchise that inspired it all keeps selling.

Black Flag Resynced's continued momentum means Ubisoft has every incentive to keep the marketing energy going. More stunts, more records, and more moments that blur the line between the game world and the real one seem likely. Keep an eye on Red Bull's channels and check out the broader gaming guides hub for coverage as the Assassin's Creed universe keeps expanding.
