Semiwork Studios has officially dropped the first major patch for R.E.P.O., and it’s a big one. The Museum Update (v0.2.0), released on June 26, introduces a fresh map, more gear to loot and shoot with, public matchmaking, and a brand-new difficulty mechanic designed to keep even veteran players on edge.
Welcome to the Museum of Human Art
At the center of this update is the Museum of Human Art—a new map filled with eerie hallways, high-value artifacts, and, of course, plenty of ways to die. As always, your job is to recover rare loot and get out alive, preferably without losing your entire team in the process. The new setting adds a strong dose of atmosphere to the game’s already weird and unnerving world, pushing the game’s horror-comedy tone a little further into the surreal.
New Moon Phase System Cranks Up the Heat
A new gameplay system called Moon Phases raises the stakes. Every five levels, the moon changes, ramping up the difficulty in ways that will keep even the most coordinated crews scrambling. You can check which moon is active in the escape menu, which is a good idea if you plan on making it out with your valuables intact.
Load Up: New Weapons and Gear
The update doesn’t just throw tougher challenges at players—it also gives them more tools to fight back. Several new items have been added, including the Photon Blaster, Pulse Pistol, and Boltzap for firepower, along with Tumble Wings and Crouch Wings for more tactical movement. These gear additions expand player options when tackling missions, whether it’s a stealthy artifact grab or a chaotic last-minute dash to the extraction point.
UI Updates and Extraction Point Changes
Quality-of-life changes are also part of the Museum Update. The battery UI has been completely overhauled, now offering an accurate, detailed look at what each item is using from your power supply. Extraction points also come with a new visual warning system that flags which valuables are in danger of being destroyed—giving players a split-second decision between escaping or saving precious loot.
More Emotes, Matchmaking, and Bug Fixes
R.E.P.O.'s multiplayer is also getting some attention. Players can now jump into public matchmaking to team up more easily, and a range of new emotes and expressions make communication in the field smoother (and weirder). Semiwork Studios has also tackled bugs across the board, fixing issues with enemies, weapons, and some backend security flaws aimed at curbing hacking in online play.
A Strong First Step Forward
With the Museum Update, R.E.P.O. makes a strong push toward becoming a more complete and challenging co-op extraction game. The new map, gameplay mechanics, and gear shake up the formula just enough to make both new and returning players take notice.
