The social browser game Pixels has been pulling in serious attention from crypto players since migrating to web3. Last month, the game hit over 115,000 Daily Active Unique Wallets (DAUWs) on Sky Mavis' Ronin blockchain. Ronin is the Ethereum sidechain that powers Axie Infinity. Pixels just rolled out new Guilds features for Chapter 2, and now CEO Luke Barwikowski has confirmed the game will run on two in-game currencies: $BERRY and $PIXEL. $BERRY already functions as the primary cryptocurrency on Ronin. $PIXEL, the premium currency, hasn't launched yet. When it does, $PIXEL will unlock in-game perks like minting new land NFTs, speeding up build times, boosting character energy, unlocking XP, accessing crafting recipes, and buying pets and character skins. The game's whitepaper breaks down the full list.
With the $PIXEL token launch coming, Pixels Game CEO Luke Barwikowski posted a warning on Twitter. He made it clear there won't be a surprise drop and told players to watch out for scams. "We will not surprise drop $PIXEL," Barwikowski wrote. "Be very careful over the next couple of months. People will try to scam you. You will know when $PIXEL is coming—we'll be noisy as hell during the lead-up." The message is a direct response to the scam problem in web3, where fake token drops and shady marketing are common. If you see an unexpected $PIXEL announcement, it's probably a scam. A Discord screenshot shows Barwikowski also promised at least three days' notice before the actual token launch. That gives players who have Ronin's $RON token staked enough time to unstake and get their tokens ready.
Separately, Ronin just added Binance Pay integration to its crypto wallet, which makes deposits easier for Pixels players. The Deposit from Binance feature is now built into the Ronin Wallet mobile app. You can deposit from Binance without scanning or copying wallet addresses, and it only costs a small fixed fee. There's also an auto-conversion feature that lets you swap assets held in Binance for Ronin assets. For example, you can convert ETH on Binance into SLP on Ronin. Right now, AXS, SLP, and USDC are available through Binance Pay. The update makes it simpler to move funds from Binance exchange accounts into Ronin wallets, which strengthens Ronin's position as the go-to Ethereum sidechain for web3 games. As hype builds for the $PIXEL token, Barwikowski's transparency push is consistent. Players can expect clear communication and no surprise drops when the token finally goes live.
