The Runes trading card game, developed by the Forgotten Runes Wizard Cult, has completed its migration from the Polygon blockchain to Ronin. The transition relocates the full range of card NFTs, packs, backgrounds, and artwork into the Ronin ecosystem, marking a new chapter for the fantasy-themed digital card game.

Full migration to Ronin blockchain
All Polygon-based smart contracts tied to Runes have been deprecated. Players must now use the Ronin blockchain for minting cards, opening packs, and purchasing items with the $RON token. Wallet compatibility has expanded to include both Ronin and Metamask, though only the Ronin wallet supports minting and transactional gameplay. Users who held assets on Polygon received matching items on Ronin, delivered to the same wallet address unless they specified a different one before the cutover.
Edition labels distinguish old and new cards
The shift to Ronin introduces an Editions system. Cards minted before the migration now carry a 1st Edition label, while any cards generated on Ronin going forward will display a 2nd Edition tag. These Edition markers currently function as metadata identifiers, but the development team has hinted they may gain additional in-game utility or collector significance down the line.
Promo card airdrops for partner communities
Runes is distributing promotional NFT airdrops to several partner communities in celebration of the Ronin launch. Players from Forgotten Runiverse, Cyberkongz, Kanstar, Ronke, and Fishing Frenzy can claim limited-edition promo cards. Each community has its own eligibility criteria, which may involve holding specific NFTs or tokens. The airdrops aim to drive cross-ecosystem engagement and broaden the Runes player base.
Tournaments planned to expand competitive play
The Runes team has confirmed plans to roll out official tournaments, though exact details remain under wraps. Competitive gameplay is expected to deepen the player experience and sustain long-term participation. Tournaments will likely emphasize deck-building tactics, player skill, and card synergies, staying true to the game's core design as a competitive 1v1 digital trading card experience.
