Saga, a blockchain protocol and developer ecosystem focused on web3 gaming, has launched its Pegasus incentivized testnet. The release represents the first phase of Saga's roadmap toward the Saga Protocol V1 Mainnet, planned for early 2024.

Saga's Pegasus testnet demonstrates how blockchain infrastructure can support gaming applications. First announced in August at the Saga Multiverse Summit, Pegasus has been developed to address the technical requirements of developers and ecosystem partners.
The Saga Protocol centers on Chainlets—automated, high-performance, gasless, interoperable, and customizable chains. The Saga Chainlet Realm serves as the primary realm, with additional Realms planned for integration with Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Celestia, and XPLA. Pegasus supports configurable Realms from launch.
Pegasus includes the Saga Chainlet Realm alongside core architectural elements needed to onboard additional Realms. These elements include the security chain, which provides security for the Saga protocol, and the platform chain, where developers deploy and manage their Chainlets.
The Chainlet handles all application logic and end-user interactions. It currently supports Ethereum Virtual Machine-based Chainlets, with VM-agnostic support planned for future updates.
Saga has launched an airdrop campaign alongside the incentivized testnet. Developers, end users, validators, and community members who complete launch quests and contribute to the ecosystem can earn SAGA tokens.

Rebecca Liao, CEO of Saga, stated that the protocol focuses on creating a developer-friendly environment and expanding opportunities for creators. Through partnerships and the Innovator Program, Saga has brought in nearly 1,500 developers building 282 projects within its ecosystem.
Saga has the best community any protocol could ask for. Seeing our Innovators showcasing their creativity in this Incentivized Testnet, we are more positioned for success than ever. We have seen incredible gaming apps reach a demo-able state and cannot wait to take them live on the Saga platform. We are fully committed to supporting their growth.
Rebecca Liao, CEO of Saga
The Pegasus testnet launch positions the San Francisco-based company for its next phase of development. The full-featured Saga Protocol V1 Mainnet is scheduled for 2024, setting the stage for expanded web3 gaming infrastructure and developer tools.
