Spine Coming Soon - Epic Games Store

After years of building anticipation with eye-catching footage and demo appearances, SPINE - This is Gun Fu finally has a concrete release window. Nekki confirmed on August 26 that the gun-fu shooter is targeting a Summer 2027 launch across PC and consoles, and the announcement came paired with a brand-new gameplay trailer.

What the new trailer actually shows

The trailer is doing a lot of work here. Beyond the expected flashes of stylish gunplay, it gives players their first proper look at the supreme leader of Tensor City, the cyberpunk metropolis that forms the backdrop for the game's story. Tensor City reads like a place where crime and punishment operate on a loop, soaked in neon and surveillance tech, and the trailer leans into that atmosphere hard.

Redline, the game's protagonist, remains the clear centerpiece. She's equipped with a sentient combat implant that augments her fighting capabilities, and the animation work behind her movement is genuinely hard to ignore. That's no accident.

The Cascadeur engine is doing heavy lifting

Nekki built SPINE on their proprietary Cascadeur animation engine, which is designed specifically to produce physics-grounded, fluid motion. The studio describes it as making players feel like the star of their own action movie where no two fights play out the same way. That's a bold promise, but the trailer footage at least suggests the animation pipeline is delivering something different from the standard action game template.

Nekki isn't a newcomer to stylized action. The studio previously developed Vector and the Shadow Fight series, so there's a track record of understanding movement and combat feel. SPINE looks like a significant step up in production scope compared to those titles.

tip
SPINE blends third-person shooting with hand-to-hand combat across multiple camera perspectives, aiming for a cinematic feel grounded in the gun-fu action genre.

Summer 2027 puts it in a crowded window

Summer 2027 is still roughly a year out, which gives Nekki time to refine what's already been shown publicly. Hands-on demo impressions from Summer Game Fest 2025 were largely positive, with the game's mix of perspectives, slick gunplay, and cyberpunk narrative drawing attention from players looking for something outside the typical third-person action mold.

The key here is that SPINE has been building its reputation slowly and deliberately. There's no battle pass announced, no live-service framing in sight. It's presenting itself as a focused single-player experience, which in the current market is actually a selling point worth noting.

For players who want to stay ahead of the game before launch, the SPINE - This is Gun Fu guides will be the place to check as more details surface. Broader coverage across upcoming releases is also tracked through gaming guides on GAMES.GG.
