The Steam Autumn Sale is live, and with 2026 already being one of the most wallet-punishing years in gaming history, the timing feels deliberate. Hardware costs are up, new releases regularly push past $70, and your backlog is not getting any shorter. Valve's sale runs until October 8 at 10 PM PT, which gives you a tight seven-day window to make smart calls.
Here's the lowdown: not every green tag in the store is worth your attention. Some discounts look impressive until you check the game's price history and realize it has been that cheap three times already this year. The picks below clear that bar. These are titles with genuine value at their current prices, not just familiar names with a percentage slapped on them.

The headliners worth clearing your weekend for
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is the most interesting entry on this list right now. CD PROJEKT RED dropped the remaster on September 29, which means it launched just days before the sale. At 50% off and $24.99, it is not the deepest discount the base game has ever seen, but this version includes every expansion and DLC alongside proper visual upgrades and quality-of-life changes like the Unlimited Item Durability toggle. With The Witcher 4 in development and a new expansion confirmed, waiting for this one to hit its old $3.99 low could take years.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is back at its historic low of $9.99. Capcom's 2023 remake of the series' most action-forward entry holds up as one of the best third-person shooters on PC, with Leon Kennedy's European village nightmare looking sharper than ever. If you want something leaning harder into pure horror rather than action, Resident Evil 7 is the detour worth taking, but RE4 Remake is the stronger all-around game.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade sits at $9.99 with a 75% discount. Square Enix's first chapter in the FF7 trilogy plays like a high-budget action film, and with Final Fantasy 7: Revelation arriving next year, getting caught up now makes sense. The game runs well on Steam Deck too, which is a genuine bonus.
The horror and multiplayer picks for October
October demands at least one scary game in your cart. The Outlast Trials is currently sitting at a record-low 90% off, bringing it down to $3.99. Red Barrels' multiplayer horror prequel to the Outlast series dropped in 2024 and has built a genuinely welcoming community around cooperative survival runs. Regular events keep the content fresh, and the game's villain design leans into dark comedy in a way that makes the scares more memorable rather than less.
Control Ultimate Edition at $5.99 is a steal that needs no further argument. Remedy Entertainment's surreal action-adventure drops players into the brutalist headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control at the worst possible moment. The lore is dense, the gunplay is satisfying, and the setting does things with corporate architecture and Lovecraftian dread that nothing else quite replicates. The Ultimate Edition bundles both DLC expansions, and it connects directly into the recently launched Control Resonant if you want to follow the thread forward.
Arc Raiders from Embark Studios is down to $19.99, its cheapest price since launch. The extraction shooter is more approachable than most in the genre, with co-op play making the surface raids feel less punishing. The Frozen Trail update is coming soon with a new winter map, so jumping in now puts you ahead of the content wave rather than catching up to it.
Strategy, JRPGs, and the indie you should not sleep on
Total War: Warhammer 3 just received its biggest update to date, overhauling the Immortal Empires sandbox with End Times scenarios and four new Legendary Lords via the Lords of the End Times DLC. The 85% discount brings it down to $8.99. Creative Assembly's hybrid strategy game has never been in a better state, and the sheer variety of factions means you can sink hundreds of hours in without repeating the same playstyle twice. Persona 3 Reload hits 70% off at $17.99. ATLUS delivered a remake that takes the high school social sim framework and pulls it somewhere genuinely dark. For anyone who has been on the fence about the Persona series, this is the entry that explains why Persona 5 landed the way it did. With Persona 6 confirmed and Persona 4 Revival dated, there has never been a better time to build your Atlus backlog.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps at $2.99 is the easiest recommendation on this list. Moon Studios' 2D platformer is one of the most visually accomplished games on PC, full stop. The final level is the one weak point in an otherwise near-perfect run, but at 90% off, the price-to-quality ratio is absurd. If The Sims 4 is more your speed for cozy gaming, our Sims 4 mods guide covers how to get even more out of that library.
Toem rounds out the top 10 at $1.99 with a 90% discount. Something We Made's photography adventure is short, hand-drawn, and genuinely charming in a way that bigger games rarely manage. It is a perfect autumn evening game, and the sequel Toem 2 is already out if you finish it and want more.
Honorable mentions before the sale closes
Several other titles just missed the main list, mostly for being priced a touch higher than ideal or having less urgency behind them. Still worth knowing about:
The sale ends October 8, so the clock is already running. For deeper dives on specific titles before you commit, the reviews hub has you covered on recent releases across every genre on this list.
