Stellar Blade, developed by South Korean studio Shift Up and published by PlayStation as a second-party title, has hit major sales benchmarks on PC. After spending over a year as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, the game arrived on Steam on June 11 and immediately found a massive audience.

First-day sales reached 544,000 copies on Steam. Within seven days, the PC version crossed 1.1 million copies sold, bringing in more than $56 million in revenue. That's a strong showing for a new IP that debuted in 2024.

PC Launch Outpaces Original Console Release

The Steam release has moved faster than the original console launch. The PlayStation 5 version sold 566,000 copies in its opening week. That means the PC port, arriving more than a year later, sold at nearly double the rate of the PS5 debut.

Shift Up projected stronger PC performance in its latest earnings report, and the numbers back that up. The Steam launch also gave the PlayStation 5 version a lift — it added 50,000 units sold in the same week, the biggest single-week jump since a November 2024 discount.

Record-Breaking PC Launch for a PlayStation-Published Title

Stellar Blade now holds the record as the fastest-selling single-player game published by PlayStation on Steam. It beat established franchises like God of War, The Last of Us, and Spider-Man in launch-aligned sales. The only PlayStation-published title with higher first-week PC sales is Helldivers 2, which launched day-and-date on both PC and PS5. Helldivers 2 sustained its momentum longer, but Stellar Blade's early performance sets a new bar for console-to-PC ports of single-player games.

China Plays a Central Role in Steam Success

The Chinese market drove a huge portion of Stellar Blade's Steam sales. Despite not being officially available in China, 56 percent of Steam players are based there. This pattern shows up across many recent PC releases, where China consistently ranks in the top three markets.

Shift Up made deliberate moves to court Chinese players. The Steam version includes full Chinese localization with voice dubbing that wasn't in the PS5 release. Regional pricing set the game at ¥268 (roughly $37) in China, compared to $60 in the United States. The studio also ran targeted campaigns on local platforms like Billibilli to build awareness ahead of the Steam launch.

Final Thoughts

PlayStation has flagged the Chinese market as a priority, and Stellar Blade's Steam performance validates that strategy. The company backs initiatives like the China Hero Project to support local developers and continues exploring ways to expand beyond its traditional Western base.

Stellar Blade's trajectory shows how localization and smart platform timing can unlock new revenue streams. It also demonstrates that a strong PC port can boost console sales rather than cannibalizing them, pointing toward a more integrated cross-platform approach.

As publishers weigh their global strategies, Stellar Blade's example will likely shape decisions around market prioritization, localization depth, and PC release timing. It underscores the growing influence of markets like China in defining cross-platform trends.
