Valve sleuth GabeFollower, a well-established name in the Steam datamining space who isn't known for fabricating discoveries, shared screenshots of mined Steam backend code this week. The strings appear in multiple contexts, attached to labels like CreateTask_Request and CreateTask_Response in one screenshot.
A second screenshot ties SteamGPT to TrustScore variables. That second detail is what really sent the speculation into overdrive, because Trust Scores (also referred to as Trust Factors) are the matchmaking metric Valve uses in Counter-Strike 2. Valve's own support documentation explains that players improve their Trust Factor by playing Steam games "legitimately," which made it easy for people to connect the dots toward an AI-assisted anti-cheat scenario.
Why the community reaction is almost more interesting than the leak itself
Here's the thing: the fear response to "SteamGPT" tells you a lot about where gamer sentiment sits on AI right now. Steam's existing support system already has a reputation for being slow and impersonal, and the prospect of an LLM fielding refund disputes or account appeals is genuinely not a fun mental image.
The anti-cheat angle is where things get more specific. If SteamGPT does connect to Trust Factor systems in CS2, the question of AI hallucinating false positives becomes a real concern, not just a meme.
