Microsoft has officially made the Xbox app available on all Arm-based Windows 11 PCs. The move brings the Xbox experience, including Game Pass benefits and access to a growing library of titles, to a wider range of devices. Players can now download and play games directly on Arm-based laptops and handhelds, with cloud gaming as an alternative for titles not yet optimized for local play.

Windows 11 has been steadily improving its gaming capabilities, particularly on Arm-based devices. Advances in DirectX have helped modern games run faster and look more immersive, while hardware improvements in handhelds and laptops have expanded the potential for portable gaming. The addition of the Xbox app on these devices marks another step in Microsoft's effort to make Windows a consistent platform for gaming.

Expanding Game Compatibility on Arm Devices

A significant portion of the Xbox Game Pass library is now playable on Arm-based Windows 11 PCs, with more than 85% of titles currently supported. For games that are not yet fully compatible, Xbox Cloud Gaming provides a way to play without waiting for native support.

Compatibility improvements have come through updates to Prism, the emulator that allows x86/x64 software to run on Arm-based devices. Prism now supports AVX and AVX2 instruction sets, which expands the range of modern games that can run locally. In addition, Epic Anti-Cheat (EAC) support ensures that popular multiplayer titles, including Fortnite and Gears of War: Reloaded, can be played safely and without issue. Windows Performance Fit also guides players on which games are best suited to their device, offering recommendations based on hardware capabilities.

Collaboration Drives Gaming Improvements

Microsoft emphasizes that these updates are the result of ongoing collaboration between Windows, Xbox, developers, OEMs, and silicon providers. The focus is on improving compatibility, enhancing performance, and creating a consistent experience across all devices. Updates and new titles are informed by feedback from the gaming community, ensuring that the platform evolves in line with player needs.

As Microsoft continues to expand the Xbox app on Arm-based PCs, players can expect additional titles and features in the coming year. The combination of local game support and cloud gaming options positions Arm-based Windows 11 devices as a viable platform for both casual and more dedicated gamers.
