If you pre-ordered Gears of War: E-Day and forgot about that gift card promotion Xbox was running, now is the time to check your profile. The free $5 Microsoft Store gift cards tied to that pre-order offer have started going out, and eligible players can claim them right now through the Offers & Credits section of their Xbox account.

Xbox ran the promotion in select countries during the pre-order window for Gears of War: E-Day, bundling in open beta access, a couple of cosmetic skins, and the gift card as incentives to lock in a purchase early. The gift card itself was never going to arrive at checkout. Xbox held it back deliberately, the same approach the company used for Forza Horizon and 007 First Light pre-order promotions, to prevent buyers from grabbing the credit and immediately cancelling.

Where the $5 credit actually lands

The rollout was first spotted in Spain, where players confirmed the $5 prepaid card had appeared as an active offer in their Xbox profile. The balance works across the Microsoft Store and is valid until January 11, 2027, so there's no immediate rush, but you'll want to keep that expiry date in mind.

To check if yours is ready, open the Microsoft Store on your Xbox console, hover over your gamertag in the left-hand menu, and look for the Offers & Credits submenu. If the gift card is there, it will show under the Active tab ready to redeem.

Which edition of the game qualifies

Here's the thing: not every version of the game is covered. The $5 gift card applies to buyers who pre-ordered the Standard Edition or the full Premium Edition of Gears of War: E-Day within the eligible window. The Premium Upgrade, which is the standalone content add-on for players who already owned the base game, does not qualify for this promotion.

If you are unsure whether your purchase falls within the eligible pre-order period, the Offers & Credits section will tell you quickly enough. An active offer means you're in. No offer listed means either the rollout hasn't reached your region yet, or your purchase didn't meet the criteria.

A small reward with a short shelf life

$5 is not going to move mountains, but it's a genuine credit toward your next Xbox Store purchase and a nice payoff for players who committed to the pre-order months ago. Xbox has form with this kind of delayed delivery on promotional credits, so the mechanics here are familiar even if the timing catches some players off guard.

For anyone still getting up to speed on the game itself, the Gears of War: E-Day guides collection has everything from launch timing breakdowns to Game Pass tier details worth bookmarking before you spend that credit on your next purchase.
