Free Play Days – GTA Online, Crisol: Theater of Idols, Planet Zoo, Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 - XBOX Wire

The weekend is here, and honestly, the timing could not be better. Xbox Game Pass just picked up a fresh batch of titles, the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale is still live with some genuinely solid discounts, and Halo: Campaign Evolved review code has started landing ahead of its launch next week. There is a lot competing for your Saturday and Sunday.

The Game Pass additions worth your time right now

The headline arrival this weekend is PBA Pro Bowling 2026, which just dropped into Xbox Game Pass. Bowling games rarely generate much buzz, but this one earned genuinely strong reception at launch, and having it available at no extra cost removes any reason to skip it. If you have even a passing curiosity about the genre, this is the lowest-friction entry point you will find.

The Game Pass additions this week were not limited to one title, though. Seven games confirmed across the week means there is real variety on offer, and the Free Play Days window running through July 20 adds even more to the pile without requiring a purchase.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is the story this weekend

Here's the thing: the most talked-about game this weekend has not even launched yet. Halo: Campaign Evolved review code is in the hands of press ahead of next week's release, and early impressions suggest the weight of revisiting that universe is hitting hard. For anyone who grew up with Halo: Combat Evolved, there is a specific kind of anticipation attached to this one that is difficult to explain to someone who did not experience the original.

If you want to do the same comparison run before the new game drops, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a reasonable weekend project. The contrast between what the series was and what Campaign Evolved is attempting should be interesting.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to launch next week. If you want to go in fresh, this weekend is your last window to revisit the original before reviews and reactions start shaping expectations.

The Xbox Ultimate Game Sale is still worth checking

Beyond Game Pass, the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale is running with over 2,000 games discounted. OlliOlli World is one of the standouts at a steep reduction, and it holds up well as a weekend game. The skateboarding mechanics are tight, the level design is creative, and it does not demand the kind of session length that makes finishing a game feel like a job.

With 100-plus titles reduced by 90 to 95 percent in the sale, there are genuine bargains buried in there. The key here is knowing what you actually want rather than browsing until decision fatigue sets in.

What the broader gaming week looked like

Zooming out slightly, this weekend sits at the tail end of a packed week for Xbox players. Longer Gamertags rolled out to everyone alongside 11 other platform updates. Eight games are confirmed to leave Game Pass in late July, so if anything on that list has been sitting in your backlog, the clock is ticking.

For players across other platforms, the summer release pace has stayed consistent. Mixtape has been generating conversation around its soundtrack, and if you want to make sure you catch every track while playing, the complete Mixtape soundtrack guide covers all 28 songs with context. Directive 8020 is another one drawing attention, and the Episodes 7 and 8 walkthrough is worth bookmarking if you are working through it this weekend.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is also worth a mention for players who want something with atmosphere and rough edges. It is janky in places, but the horror tone lands more often than it misses.

Next week brings Halo: Campaign Evolved and 20-plus more games hitting Xbox. Check the gaming guides hub for coverage as those releases land.
