The YGG Play Summit wrapped up its Town Hall event at Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier, BGC, with conversations centered on blockchain gaming's path to mainstream adoption. Industry leaders discussed integrating blockchain-based gaming with established platforms and distribution channels, prioritizing accessibility and player-first experiences.

Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin, MIMAROPA Regional Director of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), opened the event by discussing web3's role in the Philippines' digital transformation goals. She explained that integrating web3 through familiar channels supports faster onboarding, creates job opportunities, and encourages skills development among students and professionals.

"At the heart of digital transformation are the people (our students, our professionals, and communities) who take these opportunities and turn them into meaningful outcomes," Versoza-Delfin said. "Programs like this don't just teach skills; they open doors, build confidence, and ignite creativity."

Leveraging existing gaming platforms for web3 adoption

Multiple speakers stressed the importance of meeting players on platforms they already use. Jeffrey "Jihoz" Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, positioned Ronin as a platform that could serve a role comparable to Nintendo in the blockchain space. Building on Ethereum and prioritizing high-quality gaming experiences, Ronin targets expanded adoption while delivering polished gameplay and streamlined onboarding.

Theodore Agranat, Director of web3 at Gunzilla Games, outlined a similar approach from the AAA perspective, detailing how their title Off The Grid is launching on Steam and PlayStation while incorporating web3 features that enhance existing gameplay rather than interrupting it.

Oliver Maroney, Head of Business Development and Partnerships at OpenSea, stressed that crypto adoption relies on abstraction. He detailed how players should interact with in-game tokens seamlessly across platforms. Maroney explained that simplifying these interactions will help bring liquidity, visibility, and new audiences into web3 gaming ecosystems.

Combining web2 and web3 strategies

Luke Barwikowski, founder and CEO of Pixels, outlined hybrid approaches that blend web2 user acquisition techniques with web3 incentives. Pixels' play-to-airdrop model, which distributed token rewards to active players before the PIXEL token launch in 2024, has shaped similar strategies across the industry. Barwikowski noted that studying effective web2 play-to-earn models offers valuable insights, enabling web3 games to apply experience with live token operations for smoother adoption.

Investors including Shi Khai Wei from LongHash Ventures and Alessia Baumgartner of DWF Labs discussed emerging trends in digital economies and token management, demonstrating continued confidence in web3 gaming as a viable long-term market.

Moving web3 gaming toward broader audiences

The YGG Play Summit showed that web3 gaming is increasingly adopting mainstream-friendly strategies, including integration with familiar platforms, simplified token systems, and hybrid monetization models. Focusing on accessibility and player-first experiences, developers and investors aim to expand beyond niche communities and make blockchain gaming part of everyday gaming culture.
