The glider is one of the best movement upgrades in Palia, and you want it as early as possible. Traversing Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay on foot gets old fast, and once you know how the unlock chain works, the whole process takes maybe an hour of focused play. This guide walks you through every step, from the main quest trigger to the exact materials Najuma needs.
What quest unlocks the glider in Palia?
The glider does not drop from a shop or a random chest. It comes from a specific quest chain that you can only access after pushing through the main story. The trigger quest is called Ancient Battery, which appears in your Quest tab after completing the preceding main quests in sequence.
Once Ancient Battery is active, head to the ruins behind the waterfall near your starting area. Enter through the door and you will find a large room with a bowl. The solution is simple: water the bowl until the door opens. Jina and Hekla will arrive, and after speaking with Jina, she sends you to Bahari Bay to find Najuma. This also unlocks the Echoes of the Unknown quest and the Temple of the Waves.
Before you travel to Bahari Bay, gather your materials first. Najuma needs Sapwood Planks x3, Fabric x2, and Leather x5 to craft the glider. Arriving empty-handed just adds an extra trip.

Find Najuma in Bahari Bay
How to reach Najuma in Bahari Bay
Najuma is located on the southwest side of Bahari Bay, usually working in the shed near the mines. There are two ways to get there:
- Use the Fast Travel Points at the Stables
- Walk through the zone border from the north side of your home plot or the east side of Kilima
Fast travel is the obvious choice if you have the Stables points already discovered.
How to collect all three glider materials
This is where most players lose time. Here is the fastest path through each material.
Sapwood Planks (x3)
Sapwood comes from trees on your housing plot or in Kilima Village. Cut them down, then process the raw wood into planks using a Sawmill. You unlock the quest to buy the Basic Sawmill after reaching Foraging Level 2, so make sure that is done before you need planks in a hurry.
Fabric (x2)
Two options here, and the second one is much faster:
- Grow Cotton in your garden, then process it into Fabric using a Fabric Loom (available from Tish at Furnishing Level 2)
- Buy Fabric directly from Tish's furniture shop for 190 Gold each
For a one-time crafting job like this, just buy it. 380 Gold total for both pieces of Fabric is not worth the garden time.
Leather (x5)
Same deal as Fabric:
- Hunt Sernuk in Kilima Village or Bahari Bay, then process their hides into Leather via the Fabric Loom
- Buy Leather from Tish's furniture shop for 60 Gold each
Buying all 5 costs 300 Gold. If you have the Gold, skip the hunt entirely.
Buying both Fabric and Leather from Tish costs 680 Gold total. If you are low on funds, hunt Sernuk for Leather since it is faster than farming Cotton, and only buy the Fabric.

Buy materials from Tish's shop
Material cost comparison: buy vs. craft
Sapwood Planks are the only material you have to craft yourself. Everything else can be purchased if your Gold balance allows it.
Do not confuse the Fabric Loom with the Sawmill. Leather and Fabric both process through the Fabric Loom, while planks require the Sawmill. Mixing these up will stall your progress.
How to use the glider after getting it from Najuma
Once you hand over the materials, Najuma gives you the glider. Equip it and the activation is straightforward: press the jump button a second time while already airborne. Your character deploys the glider and drifts downward slowly, giving you controlled descent across longer distances.
This makes exploring elevated terrain in both Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay significantly easier, and it is required for completing the Temple of the Waves that unlocks alongside this quest chain.

Activate glider with second jump
The glider does not grant upward lift or sustained flight. It slows your descent only. For crossing large gaps, you still need a good running start from high ground.

For more help navigating Palia's systems, the full Palia guides collection covers everything from skill leveling to temple walkthroughs. Palia sits firmly in the simulation games space, and the glider is one of those quality-of-life tools that makes the whole experience click. Once you have it, going back to ground travel feels genuinely painful.
