Picking the wrong Grimoire in Clover Time is one of the most punishing early mistakes you can make. Your spell book shapes every fight from your first quest in Hage Village through to endgame boss runs, so spending spins on a D-tier option will cost you real progression time. After testing all the Grimoires across PvP and PvE encounters, here's the definitive breakdown of what to keep and what to reroll immediately.
Clover Time is available on Roblox, playable on PC, iOS, and Android.
Before breaking down each Grimoire in detail, here's the full ranking table for quick reference.
| Tier | Grimoires | Count |
|---|---|---|
| S | Anti-Magic, Battle Lightning, Poison | 3 |
| A | Chain, Explosive Flame | 2 |
| B | Ice, Water | 2 |
| C | Snow | 1 |
| D | Fire, Earth | 2 |
These three Grimoires sit above everything else in the current meta. Each covers both PvP and PvE effectively, and any of them is worth keeping if you land one.
Anti-Magic is the strongest Grimoire in the game right now, which makes it particularly satisfying given that it literally rejects magic as a concept. Every move can initiate a combo thanks to built-in stuns, and the Awakening form pushes its damage output even higher. Whether you're grinding bosses or hunting players, Anti-Magic gives you tools for every situation. There's no scenario where this is the wrong pick.
Poison is arguably the second-best Grimoire overall and genuinely competes with Anti-Magic in certain situations. Its ranged attacks have high reach, are easy to aim, and deal serious damage, making boss fights significantly easier since you can chip away at health from a safe distance. The standout feature is the ability to summon a tanky clone that fights alongside you, which is excellent for solo PvE grinding. Evasive players who prefer to stay out of melee range will find Poison fits their playstyle perfectly.
Battle Lightning brings six distinct skills covering melee, ranged, and AoE damage. The real selling point is Volt Breaker, one of the few block-breaking moves currently in the game, which makes it genuinely threatening in PvP. Its moves are fast enough that blocking or dodging them consistently is very difficult for opponents. A strong alternative to Anti-Magic if you want similar versatility with a different playstyle.

Clover Time Grimoire Tier List: Best Grimoires Ranked
Neither of these Grimoires will match the S-tier options at peak performance, but both are genuinely powerful and less understood by the average player, which gives you a tactical edge.
Chain is a rare Grimoire that excels at locking enemies into barrage attacks with no escape route. Its long-range moves and huge stun potential make it dangerous in both PvP and PvE, and the low cooldowns mean you're constantly applying pressure. The main limitation is that it performs best at close range, so you need to close the gap before the Chain mechanics really pay off.
Explosive Flame is a significant step up from the basic Fire Grimoire. It has a much more varied moveset mixing melee, ranged, and AoE skills, and several moves apply Burn for ongoing damage. It lacks the ceiling of S-tier options, but it's a genuinely capable Grimoire that covers most content comfortably.
These two Grimoires are worth using if you roll them early, but you'll want to upgrade eventually.
Ice is an uncommon Grimoire that scales with both Strength and Power (prioritize Power). Its mix of ranged and AoE skills works well for PvE mob and boss grinding, and the Absolute Zero skill stuns enemies for a few seconds at the end of its animation. The weakness is low base damage, which limits its PvP potential and affects how well the scaling translates into actual output.
Water is the best common Grimoire you can roll as your starting spell book. Fast M1 attacks and quick skills are difficult for enemies to block, and both main moves can land 30 or more hits on a target. Performance does fall off in endgame PvE and it's not particularly strong in PvP, but for early-to-mid progression it does the job reliably.
Snow is acceptable as a first roll. It has a reasonable spread of PvP and PvE skills, and its mastery path focuses on barrages with DoT stacking. The problem is that its performance in PvP is poor, and it struggles against mid-game enemies once you leave the starting zone. Use it to get through early questlines, then reroll.
Both of these Grimoires have fundamental design problems that make them weak regardless of how much you invest in them.
Fire leans entirely on burn tick damage to whittle down enemies, but its base damage and core skills are underwhelming without heavy investment into Strength stats. It starts feeling weak almost as soon as you move out of Hage Village. The Fire Ground skill has decent AoE for very early PvE, but that's the only real positive.
Earth sounds powerful on paper but underdelivers consistently. The M1 attacks are slow and weak, the moveset in the mastery tree is limited compared to every other Grimoire, and it's completely ineffective in PvP. Reaching even a barely usable state in PvE requires dumping a significant number of stat points into both Strength and Power. Reroll this without hesitation.
The Grimoire Tower is located near the Chain Bandit Boss. The fastest way to reach it is by talking to the Finral NPC and selecting the teleport option to the Grimoire Tower. If you don't have enough currency for the teleporter, mount your broom and follow the tower icon on your compass, keeping it between 105 and 120 on the heading. Once inside the tower, climb the platform and interact with the red box to access the Grimoire Gacha.
Crystal Mana is the currency you'll need to spin for new Grimoires. There are five ways to acquire it:
If you're starting out and land a Water Grimoire, keep it long enough to clear early content before saving up for a reroll. If you get Fire or Earth, reroll as soon as you reach the tower. The gap between D-tier and S-tier Grimoires is large enough that playing on a weak spell book will make the mid-game noticeably harder than it needs to be.
