Flying pets in Prehistoric Farm are more than a cosmetic flex. They let you cross the map without rowing your Dinghy between every island, carry a friend along, and even enter Sky Races for extra Coins. Getting one takes a specific questline with a few moving parts, so here's exactly what you need to do in Roblox's dinosaur-ranching game to get airborne.

What do you need before starting the flyer quest?

Before you set sail for Sky Spires Island, make sure you have three things sorted. You need a fishing rod and bait (both available from NPCs on the docks at Home Island), a Silver Shovel in your inventory, and at least 10,000 Coins saved up. That coin cost is the final payment Clara charges when she hands over your egg.

The Silver Shovel is the gating item most players stumble on. You pick it up from the Shovel Shop on Home Island in exchange for 5x Aquamarine Shards, 8x Red Jasper, and 8,000 Coins. Aquamarine Shards come from Cambrian Island rocks, and Red Jasper drops from Devonian Island rocks. Plan to gather those materials before touching the questline.

You also need to be Level 20 or higher to accept Clara's quests. If you're still climbing levels and want to make the most of your coin grind, the strategies in this Ride a Pet money-farming guide cover income mechanics that apply broadly across Roblox pet games.

How to find Sky Spires Island

Sky Spires Island has no compass marker, which trips up a lot of players. The trick is to sail to Auction Island first, then look behind it. A line of buoys trails off the back of Auction Island, and following those buoys leads you straight to Sky Spires.

Once you dock, walk the straight path from the docks toward the centre of the island. Clara the Airborne NPC is standing there. Talk to her and accept the quest to kick things off, then head back to Home Island to stock up on bait before the fishing phase begins.

How to catch 20 pufferfish for Clara's first quest

Pufferfish is a Rare fish, and that classification matters for how you cast. Using Weak Casts lowers your odds of landing Rare fish, but going for Perfect Casts every time actually works against you here because those tend to pull in higher-rarity catches instead. The sweet spot is Good Casts, which hit the Rare tier reliably without overshooting it.

You can carry a maximum of 15 baits at a time, so you may need to make a return trip to Tylo the Fisher at Home Island's docks to restock mid-session. Once all 20 pufferfish are caught, sail back to Sky Spires and speak with Clara again to register the quest completion and unlock the second task.

Where are the Triassic Rocks and how do you break them?

After registering the pufferfish with Clara, your next objective sends you to Triassic Island, located to the left of Cambrian Island. This is where your Silver Shovel earns its keep. The quest asks you to break 70 Triassic Rocks, and the Silver Shovel is the minimum tool required to do it.

Triassic Island has enough rocks to complete the task in a single visit if you work through the island methodically. Once you hit 70, head back to Auction Island and report to Clara. She will confirm the quest completion, then charge you 10,000 Coins for one flyer egg.

What flying pets can you hatch from Clara's egg?

There are five flying pets available from Clara's eggs. The egg you receive is randomized, so you will not know which flyer is inside until it hatches.

Flying PetRarity Notes
PterodactylusCommon drop
RhamphorhynchusCommon drop
TapejaraMid-tier drop
PteranodonMid-tier drop
QuetzalcoatlusRarest, 5% chance

Quetzalcoatlus is the fastest flying pet in the game and the one most players are grinding for. With only a 5% drop rate from Clara's egg, expect to run the questline multiple times before you see it. The quest resets immediately after you receive an egg, so you can go straight back to Clara and start again without any cooldown.

Warning
There is no shortcut to guarantee a Quetzalcoatlus. Every egg from Clara is an independent roll at 5%, so patience and a steady supply of bait and Coins is the only real strategy.

How do you use your flying pet after hatching?

Once your egg hatches, equip the flying pet to your Ranch and feed it until it reaches Adult stage. After that, tap the + icon on the right side of your screen to assign it as a Partner. Partners can be summoned at any time, letting you mount your flyer and take to the skies, with room for one additional player to ride along.

Flying pets also unlock Sky Races, a Coin-earning activity that becomes available once you have a Partner flyer active. Running these races regularly stacks nicely with your other income sources and is worth doing between questline repeats.

Understanding drop rates and egg rarity is a skill that carries across Roblox pet games. If you want a deeper look at how these systems work, the Ride a Pet eggs and hatching guide breaks down rarity mechanics in detail.
