Your Bizarre Adventure gives you a second layer of identity beyond your Stand. Fighting styles are independent abilities that stack on top of whatever Stand you run, and the combination you choose shapes your entire playstyle. Five options are available to regular players: Boxing, Spin, Pluck, Ripple (four variants), and Vampirism. Pick wrong and your Stand's weaknesses become crippling. Pick right and you open up combos that otherwise wouldn't exist.

What are fighting styles in YBA and how do they work?

Fighting styles in Roblox Your Bizarre Adventure are additional ability sets learned from NPCs once you hit level 10. They operate on their own gauge resources, independent of your Stand's meter. Each style has Z, X, C, and V skills, plus a passive system that upgrades through a separate skill tree.

The v1.55 update hit hard: all fighting styles took a 25% skill damage reduction, except Pluck, which only received a 5% cut. That patch effectively elevated Pluck to the top of the meta by leaving everything else weaker. Then v1.58 trimmed skills further but buffed passives across the board, shifting value toward your main body's performance rather than raw fighting style output.

Every style also requires you to hold a specific weapon item to use certain skills. Item swapping is a real mechanical skill in YBA, not an afterthought.

Boxing: mobility and pressure

Boxing is a close-range specialist with excellent mobility and passive defense. Its core passive, Agile Footwork, creates a gauge that charges when you land Z, X, or V skills, and when the gauge maxes out, the next skill gets enhanced. A second passive, Strong Skin, provides up to 20 defense permanently, which is stronger than most other styles because it applies in every situation without needing to fill a gauge first.

The C skill, Boxing Shuffle, is where Boxing separates itself. It moves you a significant distance, comparable to a dash, without canceling your run. At full upgrade it gains invincibility frames and resets its own cooldown. Knowing when to use it aggressively versus defensively is the difference between a Boxing player who wins and one who gets punished.

The V skill deserves special attention. It has super armor, meaning ragdoll effects cannot cancel it. If an opponent throws out their own V skill, countering with yours deals 42 damage through the ragdoll effect. In mirror matches this becomes a genuine mind game.

Boxing requires level 10 and Quinton's Glove plus the learning fee to unlock. The NPC is located to the left of the arcade entrance.

Spin: the only real ranged fighting style

Spin (Steel Ball Rotation) is the outlier in YBA's fighting style roster. Every other style is built around melee range. Spin has three projectile skills, making it the only option for players whose Stand lacks ranged tools.

The Rotation Gauge passive is what makes Spin tick. When charged, iron ball skills deal 48% more damage and projectile skills gain up to 15% extra. The problem is that charging the gauge slows your movement to a crawl, and the gauge drains over time. Managing this resource in a live fight is genuinely difficult.

Spin pairs naturally with Stands that have time-stop or other lockdown tools, since landing iron balls consistently requires the opponent to be slowed or stationary. Trying to use Spin against a mobile opponent with no CC support is a frustrating experience.

Spin is learned from Gyro Zeppeli at the Pizza Shop at level 10+, requiring an iron ball and the learning fee.

Pluck (Swordsmanship): best combo starter in the game

After the v1.55 patch, Pluck sits at the top of the fighting style meta. It received only a 5% damage reduction while everything else took 25%, and it already had the strongest combo-initiation toolkit. The result is a style that rewards aggressive play and punishes passive opponents.

Pluck's passive system is layered. Fatal Speed stacks accumulate on sword hits, increasing skill and sword damage by 2.5% per stack. Esstoc's Essence makes all sword and Pluck skill damage true damage that ignores defense. Essence of Shotel means blocked hits still deal 25% of their original damage. Opponents who try to turtle against Pluck lose stamina regardless.

The C skill is the combo engine. It teleports you forward and drags every enemy in range to your location. The catch: it can be blocked with a rush or hard punch after the initial hit lands, so timing your follow-up correctly matters. Pairing C into V is reliable because V has super armor and cannot be canceled by rushes or hard punches once active.

For a deeper look at how Pluck fits into combo structures, the Strongest Battlegrounds wall combo guide covers wall-based combo extensions that share mechanical DNA with YBA's extended combo theory.

Pluck is learned from the Uzurashi NPC near the Panna Cotta Fugo boss area at level 10+, requiring an ancient scroll and the learning fee.

Ripple: four variants, one gauge

Ripple is technically four separate fighting styles sharing a common passive: the Ripple Gauge, charged by holding G to breathe. A full gauge adds 15% damage to all attacks and 10% to ranged projectiles. Ripple also hard-counters Vampirism, dealing 24% bonus damage to vampires when the gauge is charged.

The movement penalty during gauge charging is the universal weakness across all four variants. You are slow and vulnerable every time you stop to breathe.

Jonathan Joestar Ripple

Jonathan's variant is the tankiest option. His Joestar's Soul passive gives 35 defense and 15 extra stamina, plus faster stamina regeneration. Strong Spirit adds 25% fighting style damage when health drops below 40%. The tradeoff is that unlocking all these passives costs 51 skill points, leaving less room for Stand and main body upgrades.

His V skill, Luck & Pluck, deals up to 34.5 damage with bleeding, fire, and limb-cut status effects simultaneously. It also has super armor. When you need to swing momentum in a losing fight, this skill can do it.

Will A. Zeppeli Ripple

Zeppeli's variant trades Jonathan's survivability for better mobility and easier combo starts. His Z skill, Zoom Punch, extends the arm joint to punch from range, with strong stiffness that links into most follow-up skills. The downside: Zeppeli is the only Ripple variant with no defense-increasing passive whatsoever.

Joseph Joestar Ripple

Joseph's variant is mid-range focused. His Ripple Defense passive grants 22.5 defense while the gauge is charged. His Z skill, Cracker Boomerang, stuns on hit and returns to you. His C skill, Revert Overdrive, is a reliable guard-break elbow with short startup. The V skill fires a tommy gun with very wide range, but movement speed drops to nearly zero during it and a blocked V leaves you wide open.

Caesar Antonio Zeppeli Ripple

Caesar's variant is the stack-dependent option. His Shabong Lens passive places a lens on enemies with each skill hit, and at 5 lenses, the next Ripple skill hits for up to 34.5 damage. His C skill, Shabon Barrier, creates a bubble that ragdolls nearby enemies and lets you step back, functioning as a combo escape. At only 38 skill points to fully unlock, Caesar is the cheapest fighting style in the game.

Vampirism: unmatched sustain, brutal skill point cost

Vampirism is the only fighting style locked behind a race requirement. You must be a Vampire (using a Stone Mask) to learn it, and it's only available from the NPC in the hidden vampire bar in the sewers.

The sustain is genuinely exceptional. The Blood Gauge regenerates over time and through skill hits. Landing the Z skill, Life Absorption, restores stamina and creates a shield when both stamina and blood are full. The Immortality passive increases blood recovery on kills and skill hits. In extended fights against opponents without Ripple, a skilled Vampirism player is nearly impossible to run down.

Vampirism's counter, Vaporization Freezing Method, is unique. No other player-accessible fighting style has a counter mechanic. The catch post-nerf: the counter no longer grants invincibility frames, so in multi-target situations you will take hits from other players while attempting it.

The full upgrade cost is 50 skill points. Getting full value from Vampirism requires almost all of those points to be spent, which competes heavily with Stand and main body upgrades.

What is the Vampire sub-spec?

Vampire players can use Boxing or Pluck as a "sub-spec" instead of Vampirism. The most common combination is Vampire Boxing, where the Blood Gauge's stamina regeneration pairs with Boxing's passive defense and high skill damage. Vampire Pluck trades survivability for increased skill damage, better suited to Stands that win fast rather than sustain through fights.

Sub-specs are not recommended for beginners. Without strong defense fundamentals, blood drains faster than it regenerates and the race's weaknesses (sunlight, Ripple vulnerability) outweigh its benefits.

Which fighting style should you pick?

For most players starting out, Jonathan Ripple is the safest pick. The defense passive is always active when your gauge is charged, skills are intuitive, and the stat boost to all attacks means any Stand benefits from it. Pluck is the better choice once you understand the combat system and want to maximize combo potential.
