State of Decay 3 is coming nearly a decade after its predecessor, and Undead Labs is letting players get hands-on time before launch through a closed beta playtest. Sign-ups are live right now, but spots are limited and there's no guarantee you'll get in. The process takes about two minutes if you know what to do. Here's everything you need to get your name on that waitlist.
How do you sign up for the State of Decay 3 beta?
The registration process runs through the official State of Decay website and requires a Discord account to complete. Follow these steps in order:
- Go to playtest.stateofdecay.com
- Click Sign Up for Waitlist
- Link your Discord account when prompted
- Verify your email address
- You'll be placed on the waitlist automatically after verification
- Fill out the short survey that follows — this part matters
State of Decay 3 Guide: How to Sign Up for the Beta Playtest
Is there a guarantee you'll get access?
No. This is a closed beta, which means Undead Labs controls exactly how many players get in. Slots are limited, and signing up puts you on a waitlist rather than guaranteeing immediate access. The survey responses are what the team uses to filter applicants, so how you fill it out likely influences your chances.
If you miss this playtest or don't receive an invite, there may be additional opportunities down the line. Undead Labs has suggested watching the game's official Discord for future announcements.
What platforms is the State of Decay 3 beta playtest on?
The beta follows the same rollout pattern as the earlier Alpha playtest. PC players get access first, with PS5 and Xbox console support confirmed to come later. Undead Labs is still finalizing the build and hasn't locked in exact timing for the console expansion yet.
What will the beta actually let you test?
State of Decay 3 picks up several years after the initial zombie outbreak, at a point where humanity is on the edge of extinction. The beta gives players a look at some of the core systems: building and managing settlements, recruiting survivors, and making the kind of decisions that shape how your community develops. Where you set up camp, what you construct, and who joins your group are all part of what you'll be able to poke at.
This is the first beta playtest Undead Labs has run for the game, so expect it to be a limited slice rather than a full preview. Think of it as a stress test of specific mechanics rather than a full demo.

What happens after you sign up?
After completing the survey, the waiting begins. Undead Labs will send invites to selected players when the playtest window opens. There's no public timeline confirmed yet, but the team has said exact timing details are coming soon.
If you don't hear back for this round, the best move is to stay connected through the official Discord and keep an eye on State of Decay 3 news. This beta is the first of what could be multiple playtest phases before the game releases.
