The spear is one of the most flexible weapons in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. It hits hard at range, keeps Elliot safe from counterattacks, and its magicite pool splits cleanly between builds that treat it as a primary damage dealer and builds that use it to supercharge a second weapon. That split is actually what makes it worth investing in regardless of your preferred playstyle.
What spears are available and where do you find them?
There are three spears in the game, each tied to a specific time period and location. Knowing which one you're working with matters because your base attack stat feeds directly into how much your magicite investments pay off.

Spear stats across all ages
The Winnehild is the weapon you're building toward. Its 20 attack stat is the highest available for the spear, and it's the one where a fully optimized magicite setup really starts to sing. Note that Falls Caves requires the Dive ability to enter, so you won't be picking this up early.
For a full breakdown of every weapon type and their locations across all four ages, the all weapon locations guide covers everything from swords to bombs.
What does every spear magicite actually do?
Before committing to a build, it's worth understanding the full pool. Several of these magicite only make sense in specific contexts, and one of them is actively misleading.

Which magicite should you prioritize?
The universal picks
Attack Up belongs in every spear build without exception. At 5-star rarity it adds 6 flat attack, which compounds well with every other damage source in the kit. It's the first slot you fill and the last one you'd ever consider removing.
The critical hit trio (Critical Damage Up, Critical Rate Up, and High Spirits) works best together rather than in isolation. Critical Rate Up reaches 20% at 5-star, High Spirits adds another 20% critical-hit rate while your Life stays above the threshold (70% at 5-star), and Critical Damage Up turns those crits into 50% bonus damage at max rarity. Stack all three and your spear starts putting out numbers that justify the investment.
The spear-as-primary picks
Magic Spear and Three-Headed Dragon are the two magicite that define a spear-focused playstyle. Magic Spear fires off passive extra attacks during normal attacks while your health is high, which pairs naturally with the critical hit setup above. Three-Headed Dragon spreads your attacks across three directions instead of one, which sounds like a downside but becomes a genuine area-control tool once you understand enemy positioning.
Advance Thrust rewards aggressive play by boosting damage against healthy enemies. Since you'll often be opening fights with a full-health target, this is a consistent damage increase in practice.
Boar Rush is the defensive pick that doubles as an offensive one. It negates damage during charge attacks, which means you can commit to charges against enemies that would normally punish the startup. Once you've learned the timing, it removes most of the risk from charge-heavy play.
The mixed-weapon picks
If you're pairing the spear with a second weapon, the Spear Shift and Weapon Shift magicite open up some strong cross-weapon synergies. Spear Shift — Reach extends the spear's range after you swap back to it from another weapon, which is particularly effective when you're alternating with the sword (fast attacks to trigger the shift quickly) or the hammer (for heavy damage windows against bosses).
Weapon Shift — Might briefly increases the damage of your other weapons after a spear attack, making the spear a strong setup tool even when it's not your primary damage source.
Swallow Thrust converts regular attacks into forward charges, which is more situational. It works well in a mixed-weapon setup as a mobility option between weapons with shorter range, but it's not a must-have for a spear-primary build.

What is the best endgame spear build?
After testing the spear across multiple boss encounters and the late-game dungeon content, the build below performs consistently at the top end. It uses the spear as the main weapon, with the sword or hammer as a secondary depending on the fight. All slots assume 5-star magicite and a fully upgraded magicite box (59/60 Cost).

The pairing logic here: the sword's fast attack speed makes it easy to trigger Spear Shift — Reach frequently, keeping the extended range active for most of the fight. Against tougher bosses where raw damage matters more, swapping to the hammer before returning to the spear creates brutal damage windows, especially with Advance Thrust hitting a full-health enemy at the start of each phase.

How does the spear compare to other weapon types?
The spear sits in a strong spot relative to other weapons. Its range advantage over the sword and hammer means you're less exposed during attacks, and the Boar Rush magicite removes the main downside of charge attacks entirely once you're comfortable with the timing. Compared to the bow, the spear deals higher per-hit damage but requires closer positioning.
For players who want to explore other weapon builds alongside the spear, the best bow magicite build and the best boomerang magicite build are both worth checking out if you're planning a mixed-weapon approach or want a ranged fallback for specific encounters.
